Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Maguire's New Mansion

Soon, Maguire and Uncle Ben's family moved into a villa district not far from 13th Street.

The greenery couldn't compare to a manor estate, but the security was excellent.

The villa itself had four levels—three above ground and one basement.

It came with front and back gardens, covering a total of 300 square meters of land, with 1,000 square meters of usable space.

Maguire had spent two million dollars on the property.

To him, it was pocket change.

Uncle Ben and Aunt May gazed at the lavish villa, eyes brimming with tears of joy, their faces full of pride as they looked at Maguire.

He smiled back.

"Uncle Ben, Aunt May, let's go inside and take a look."

They nodded excitedly and walked in.

At the door, a middle-aged woman in a maid's uniform opened it to welcome them—

the caretaker Maguire had arranged for them, personally vetted by Kingpin to be completely reliable.

Inside, the high-end yet cozy interior left Uncle Ben and Aunt May thoroughly satisfied.

Uncle Ben turned to Maguire.

"Maguire, did you tell Harry and your friends about moving?"

Maguire paused—he hadn't mentioned it yet.

"I'll invite them over soon, don't worry."

Ben smiled warmly.

"You're doing the right thing, Peter. Don't forget your friends."

Maguire called Harry, explained the move, and asked him to visit.

Harry was surprised—he knew Peter's financial situation well.

But Maguire said they'd talk more in person, and Harry promised he'd come by at noon.

By midday, Maguire and Aunt May were preparing lunch.

He had wanted the maid to cook, but Aunt May insisted on doing it herself—

Harry was Peter's best friend, and she wanted to show the highest respect.

Before long, the doorbell rang.

Maguire opened the door to find Harry—and beside him, Mary Jane.

Maguire frowned inwardly.

*"Don't tell me Harry actually got together with that two-faced girl…"*

Seeing Peter's strange look, Harry thought he was jealous.

He quickly explained,

"I ran into Mary Jane on the way. She said she wanted to see your place, so I brought her along. Don't overthink it, Peter."

Mary Jane, overhearing this, felt confused.

*"Why does it sound like Harry's saying Peter likes me? Is that why he's clarifying? Could Peter actually like me? Was that why he stood up to Flash? Why he scolded me—for being with Flash?"*

On the way, she had already learned from Harry that neither the house nor the car came from him.

She had no choice but to accept the truth—

Peter Parker, the loser, had turned his life around.

Uncle Ben and Aunt May soon came out, welcoming the guests warmly.

Not wanting to be rude, Maguire invited them in.

At the table, Maguire explained that he'd sold some scientific research results.

He didn't mention the amount, but Harry was genuinely happy.

As Peter's closest friend, he had long wanted to help him financially, but Peter's pride never allowed it.

From then on, Harry never brought it up again—respecting his friend's wishes.

Meanwhile, Maguire ignored Mary Jane completely.

She mistook it for jealousy.

But staring at the massive villa, her thoughts had already shifted.

*"Peter is rich now—not just rich, but *very* rich."*

Lunch ended in a pleasant atmosphere.

But one thing Harry mentioned caught Maguire's attention—

A staff member at Oscorp had died under mysterious circumstances, and Norman Osborn had been in poor mental health, working late constantly.

Maguire frowned inwardly.

*"So Norman's already begun human enhancement experiments? Or… has he already become the Green Goblin?"*

*"And still no sign of Connors these past few days…"*

He decided he would meet with Garfield's Spider-Man soon.

After chatting a bit more, Harry got ready to leave.

"Peter, why don't you walk Mary Jane home?" he offered—

a true wingman through and through.

Mary Jane looked at Maguire expectantly.

But the feeling was one-sided.

"You take her, Harry. I have other things to do," Maguire said calmly.

Harry nodded, but Mary Jane fumed inwardly.

*"Peter, don't think a bit of money makes you someone. You'll never compare to Oscorp. I was going to give you a chance, but you're too arrogant. Once I become Harry's girlfriend—his wife even—you'll regret it."*

Mary Jane's resolve to pursue Harry hardened completely.
