Chapter 44: Encountering Shrek on the Road
For now, the matter of soul bones seemed to be left to fate.
However, these three months had allowed him to raise his spirit power by one level, reaching level 44.
The energy in the mixed circle was so rich that it could allow him to raise a level in three months. He couldn't imagine how much faster the spirit power cultivation in the core circle, or even the Lake of Life, would be.
The next morning,
Liu Yanyang headed out of the Star Dou Great Forest, bound for Soul Hunting Town to resupply.
Entering the town, he chose a restaurant, ordered a few dishes, and quietly waited in a chair.
"Waiter, quickly bring over a dozen dishes and a few more jugs of good wine!"
A weak yet somewhat vulgar voice rang out from outside.
A young man entered the restaurant. His short, purplish-red hair was striking, and his bloated figure, with fat bulging on his face, narrowed his eyes.
Following him were a tall man with blond hair and heterochromic eyes, and a middle-aged man with broad cheekbones, a flat face, a slightly hooked nose, and black-rimmed, crystal-clear glasses.
"Aren't these Ma Hongjun, Dai Weis, and Flanders from Shrek?" Liu Yanyang muttered inwardly.
Judging by the timeline, Dai Weis was thirteen years old, and should have reached Soul Master status and come to hunt for spirit rings.
He was curious how Dai Weis, known as the "Thousand-Man Slayer of Soto City," had managed to raise his spirit power to level 37 just two years later.
"Fatty, you ordered so much, can you finish it?"
"Don't worry, Boss Dai, you don't know my strength yet,"
he said, patting his round belly.
The three of them then found a place to sit down.
Flanders closed his eyes, took a sip of tea, and looked around.
But when he looked at Liu Yanyang, a look of confusion crossed his face. He couldn't even tell the boy's age or spirit power level.
After all, this was his spirit's unique gift, and it was thanks to this ability that he had found so many talented people among the common people and tricked them into joining Shrek.
Suddenly, he became quite curious about the boy and stood up, approaching Liu Yanyang.
After sitting down, he tried his best to put on a harmless smile, his tone full of kindness.
"Little brother, excuse me, why did you come to the Star Dou Great Forest alone?"
"Are you trying to get me into Shrek Academy?" he muttered inwardly.
Liu Yanyang followed Flender's words, pretending to be alone, and spoke concisely.
"Soul hunting advancement!"
"Little brother, have you obtained a spirit ring and successfully advanced?"
Liu Yanyang nodded, his lips curled up slightly.
"Excuse me, little brother, how old are you this year? What's your spirit power level? I don't mean any harm, I just hit it off with you and wanted to chat more."
Liu Yanyang was speechless. "Who hit it off with you and wants to get him into Shrek Academy? At least find a reasonable reason!"
He had to bite the bullet and lie without blushing or beating his heart.
"13 years old, level 31!" (P.S.: actual level 12 years old, level 44!)
Upon hearing Liu Yanyang's answer, Fred's eyes lit up, becoming even brighter, and the corners of his mouth curled up, hard to suppress.
Great, great, he'd met another genius. He was truly lucky today.
Ma Hongjun and Dai Weis, standing nearby, were still a little puzzled. Their dean had just been sitting there for no reason.
Perhaps he'd discovered another civilian genius and was just about to trick him!
Fred adjusted his glasses, his eyes gleaming.
"I wonder if the little brother has enrolled at the Soul Master Academy?"
Liu Yanyang sneered inwardly, then replied calmly.
"No, I'm just about to go check out Heaven Dou Royal Academy."
Upon hearing this, Flender's face wrinkled, the corners of his mouth almost curling up to his ears.
Then, taking a deep breath to calm his excitement, he glanced at Dai Weis, closed his eyes, and kept his expression expressionless, feigning a respectable demeanor.
Dai Weis, receiving the message, beamed.
"Brother, you've struck gold today. Let me introduce you to the renowned Shrek Academy Dean, a Level 76 Battle Soul Saint—Dean Flender."
"Oh!"
That one word nearly made Dai Weis stumble, his tone somewhat helpless.
"Brother, Shrek Academy is incredibly famous in Soto City!"
"Really? But I've never heard of it! And I don't know what Shrek Academy's unique advantages are?" Liu Yanyang asked, puzzled.
Suddenly, Dai Weis's eyes lit up. Unique advantages? There were so many. Then,
with two light coughs, he began to speak freely.
"Brother, you don't know that our Shrek Academy has a strong faculty. We now have three Soul Saints, one of whom is from the Food Department, and two are at the Soul Emperor level."
"And you can also enjoy the individual guidance and sparring partner of the Soul Saint, which is not something that the Heaven Dou Royal Academy can provide!"
"The academy is rather lacking in talent and only recruits students under the age of 13 with extraordinary talents. The graduation requirement of the academy is to reach the Soul Sect before the age of 20 to be allowed to graduate. Therefore, only geniuses and monsters can enter."
"The academy has been established for 20 years and has only admitted 62 students, but only 14 have actually graduated."
"After leaving the academy, all of these people are famous figures in the world. The most outstanding one is now the youngest elder in the Spirit Hall, and his authority is second only to the Pope."
"The rest of those who haven't graduated are those who couldn't reach level 40 before the age of 20 or died while hunting soul beasts. Our dean said that if you are not a Soul Sect, don't go out and embarrass yourself."
Seeing Dai Weis's obvious excitement, his respect was beyond words.
"Stop, stop, stop!" Liu Yanyang exclaimed helplessly. Such a jerk.
"As far as I know, with the exception of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tiles Sect's leader, all the Spirit Hall elders are Titled Douluo! You guys..."
That silenced Dai Weis. How was he supposed to respond? A 33-year-old Titled Douluo? Is there even one on the mainland? And from Shrek Academy?
At that moment, Flender, who had been keeping his eyes closed, slowly opened them and whispered.
"Little brother, the Spirit Hall hid him, so few people knew about him. I'm telling you because you're incredibly talented. Don't spread rumors!" Liu Yanyang nearly laughed out loud, but forced himself to suppress it.
"So that's how it is. I've wrongly accused the dean. See for yourself."
"I just came out of the Star Dou Great Forest and am a little tired. I'll wait here for you to get your spirit rings back. We can go to Shrek Academy together then. How about that?"
"Okay, okay!" Flender said with a smile.
Afterwards, the four of them had breakfast together, and Flanders, who was usually stingy, also paid the bill generously.
At the entrance of the restaurant.
"Little brother, you have to wait for us, we will be back soon!" Flanders said reluctantly.
After seeing Liu Yanyang nod, he took Ma Hongjun and Dai Weis into the Star Dou Great Forest. When he left, he even looked back every three steps, for fear that Liu Yanyang would run away.
Liu Yanyang looked at the three people who had disappeared, sneered, "Sorry, I'm already level 44!"
Then, he headed in another direction and entered the Star Dou Great Forest.
