Chapter 77: No Time To Sob
That wild storm hadn't even cleared when the princes reached the gates of Ricardo's mansion.
The guards outside barely raised their eyes before stepping aside…the demanding pressure of Nyxmaris's power pushed through them like thunder.
Nadeira was the first to move past them. Her heart was beating so fast, she could barely breathe.
Something inside her felt wrong…like a warning, like grief that had arrived before its reason.
When she pushed open the main doors, the scent hit her first.
Harriet's voice was heard from the hallway. "Keep him covered now! Don't move him!"
Nadeira gulped as she stepped forward, one trembling hand against the wall. Then she saw Ricardo lay on the marble floor with a pale face and lips tinted blue.
The golden light from the chandeliers touched his still hands. Harriet knelt beside him, shouting at the servants who rushed around with cloths and herbs, but everyone knew it was too late.
