Chapter 56: Marked
Music floated softly across the air, but before they even stepped inside, Levius had made sure to remind Nadeira who held the chain.
As he escorted her, his hand brushed against her arm, way too warm than it supposed to. Suddenly, heat flared under her skin, and a thin, red mark, glowing like embers, spread across her flesh.
Nadeira gasped, stumbling a step. "What did you-?"
Levius moved closer, his lips brushed her ear so the guards at the door would not hear. "I marked you. If you try to run or speak against me, it will burn you alive from the inside out. You can scream, but it won't stop."
Her throat tightened, the weird electricity was already building as though fire lived under her skin.
She forced herself not to cry out. "How can you use that kind of magic? It is forbidden on land. Even the king has outlawed it."
Levius smiled without shame. "What is forbidden for others is permitted for me. No one dares to question the crown prince."
