Chapter 41: The Sea's Will
Nadeira didn't remember closing her eyes. All she remembered was the sudden weightless pull against her body, the way the water swallowed her whole.
Caspian's voice reached her first. "Don't fight it. Let it happen."
Orrisian added too, "The sea is calling you now."
Nyxmaris whispered in her ear as though he feared she might break, "We're right here… Don't be afraid."
And then—it began.
The water around her glowed. It was a strange blue light, deep and soft, wrapping her limbs like ribbons.
She felt the tips of her fingers tingle, then her legs trembled. Her knees locked together as if magnets held them tight.
"What's happening?" she gasped, her voice breaking in bubbles.
"You're changing," Caspian said.
Her body stretched, pulling long, her bones shifting in ways she couldn't explain. Skin gave way to scales, shimmering purple streaks that caught the light.
