Aside from that, several lingering mysteries finally found their answers as well.
Previously, the diary had revealed that after the battle in New Mexico, Thor returned to Asgard, and Loki fell into the cosmic abyss—dead.
This had utterly puzzled Tony Stark.
If Loki was dead, how in the world could he start the Battle of New York? That completely contradicted every piece of intel they already had!
Now, Tony finally understood—Loki hadn't died at all!
Thinking back, the diary's wording had always been a little ambiguous, easy to misunderstand.
It said, "After returning to Asgard, Thor watched Loki fall into the cosmic abyss and die."That was Thor's perspective—what he saw.Thor merely believed Loki had died when he watched him fall.
Tony had never seen a "cosmic abyss" himself, but just from the name, he could imagine it was a place where even gods might perish—a bottomless, deadly void.
So naturally, Thor assumed Loki was gone for good.
But in truth? That damned Loki had survived—and even ran into the purple potato himself! And from there, Thanos had coaxed and manipulated him into invading New York.
Thanos again! What the hell are you even after this time? Why New York? What could possibly be your goal?
Tony was dying to figure that out.
After all, Earth wasn't even an interstellar civilization yet. Humanity's greatest achievement so far was landing on the moon.
So how had they managed to piss off an alien warlord of Thanos's level?
Could it be Odin's doing? In myth, Earth was one of the Nine Realms, and as the diary had mentioned, Midgard was part of Odin's domain.
So maybe Thanos had a grudge with Odin—one he couldn't take out on the All-Father directly, and instead vented his anger on Odin's territory?
It was the only explanation that made any sense to Tony.Whether it was true or not, though, he couldn't be sure.
The real answer was probably known only to the diary's mysterious owner—Zhou Cheng.
"The key to the Battle of New York lies in that duel between Thor and Loki!"
Across the table, Nick Fury's single eye gleamed sharply.
That little revelation was pure gold to him.
In fact, out of all the spoilers in the diary so far, this one might be the most valuable of all.
Why?
Because it presented a clear, simple, and effective way to prevent the Battle of New York entirely.
Just don't let Loki fall into the cosmic abyss! If he never falls, he never meets Thanos—so no invasion of Earth!Perfect!
Cut the problem off right at the root!
And considering Thor himself was also a diary holder, he'd surely act to prevent that event once he read this.
Right now, Thor's situation couldn't be better: stranded on Earth, unable to return to Asgard. No duel with Loki means no fall, no abyss—problem solved!
A damn fine development, Fury thought.
[Well, looks like Loki's having a field day now.][With Thor stuck on Earth, nothing's stopping him from wreaking havoc in Asgard!][He's probably already sneaked the Frost Giant king, Laufey, into Odin's chambers while the old man's in the Odinsleep.][Then, when Laufey tries to kill Odin—bam! Loki strikes, kills his own father.][He actually killed his real father!][Say what you will, but Loki's ruthless—he'd slaughter his own kin just to earn Odin's approval.][He even planned to annihilate Jotunheim itself!][If Thor doesn't get back in time, Loki might actually succeed.][He'd become the hero who saved his father and destroyed Asgard's greatest enemy!][Six-six-six—worthy of the God of Mischief indeed!]
"This is… insane!"
Tony couldn't help but blurt it out, his face practically glowing with gossip-fueled excitement.
The diary had already revealed that Loki wasn't Odin's biological son, that he was in fact a Frost Giant.
But Tony never expected this—that Loki was actually the son of Laufey, the Frost Giant king himself!
In other words…Loki was the prince of Jotunheim!
"Damn," Tony muttered. "Didn't think Loki had royal blood of his own."
Then again, it made a strange kind of sense.
Even if Frigga had cheated on Odin, her partner would have to be someone of status, right?A king, perhaps. Laufey fit the bill perfectly.
Could that be the true reason behind Asgard and Jotunheim's endless wars?A cosmic love triangle?
Tony's imagination ran wild.
Sure, it sounded ridiculous—but oddly, it wasn't completely implausible either.
Still, what shocked him most was that Loki—though not Odin's son—had devoted himself to Odin so fiercely.
To earn his father's recognition, he'd kill his own real father and destroy his own homeland. That was… ruthless.A true madman. No—a true monster.
The only one who truly deserved pity here was Laufey.
His own son killed him—for the approval of his greatest enemy.Tragic didn't even begin to cover it.
"Secretly letting Laufey into Asgard to assassinate Father?""Destroying Jotunheim completely?"
Thor was fuming. Shocked, then enraged.
"Has Loki lost his mind?! Even if he wanted Father's recognition, how could he risk Father's life like that?"
And worse, it had been during the Odinsleep—when Odin was completely defenseless! That wasn't boldness, that was madness.
And annihilating Jotunheim? Unthinkable.Even if Asgard and Jotunheim had been at war for ages, genocide was never the Asgardian way.
It was absurd—absolutely absurd!
"So, Loki… is this who you truly are?"
If this had been earlier, before Loki's betrayal and assassination attempt, Thor would never have believed it.
But now?He could believe anything.
And the only thing on his mind now was returning to Asgard—fast. He had to stop Loki.
He would not let Loki's twisted plan succeed.
[Honestly, Loki's just a pitiful soul.][He looks like a villain, causing chaos in Asgard and on Earth, but deep down?][He just wanted to stand equal with Thor. That's all.][He was jealous of his brother—warped by it—but at heart, just a lonely, unloved child.][So when Thor shattered the Bifröst and ruined his plans, Loki gave up. He fell into the abyss of his own will.][He truly meant to die that day.]
Tony froze.
He hadn't expected that.So all of Loki's chaos—the wars, the schemes—stemmed from something so painfully human?
So the root cause of the Battle of New York… was bad parenting?
Odin's favoritism toward Thor had twisted Loki's heart for years, driving him to extremes in his desperate search for approval.
No wonder.
No wonder Loki had been so easily manipulated by Thanos. The Mad Titan had found his weakness.
Zhou Cheng was right—Loki really was a pitiable soul.
Even his fall into the cosmic abyss…That hadn't been an accident. It was suicide.
"Loki just wanted… to stand beside me?"
Thor stared down at the diary, lost in thought.
Was that why Loki had tried to trap him in Midgard? Why he'd sent the Destroyer to kill him?
Because without Thor, Loki would finally have all of Odin's love?
The realization hit Thor like a hammer to the chest.
He'd never thought about it that way before.
And when he recalled every battle, every victory, every celebration—he realized Loki had always been there, always helping, always unacknowledged.
It was his name the soldiers cheered. He was the one Odin praised.
And Loki… was just the shadow beside him.
"Damn it… this is my fault. All of it!"
By the time the truth sank in, Thor's anger and resentment had mostly melted away—replaced by guilt and regret.
If only he'd paid more attention to Loki.If only he'd treated him as an equal.
Thor silently vowed that once he returned to Asgard, he would talk to Loki—really talk. He'd apologize.
If he could ever lift his hammer again, that is.
[It's not just Odin—sometimes it feels like the whole Marvel universe is unfair to Loki. Is this just his fate?][The Avengers messed with time itself, broke the timeline, and TVA said nothing. Called it part of the "Sacred Timeline."][But Loki? He just escaped during the chaos—and he gets arrested!][Then they force him to work for TVA, chasing down a female version of himself.][Watching him get toyed with like that again… man, it's just sad.]
"So… the Avengers traveled through time too?"
Tony's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
He honestly hadn't seen that coming.
He didn't know how they'd managed it, but he could imagine how difficult time travel must be.
Yet somehow, in the future, the Avengers had pulled it off.
Truly, Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Still, Tony couldn't help but wonder—did they use science? Or magic?
Either way, it was fascinating.
But one question lingered:What could possibly drive them to risk tampering with time itself?
"The Sacred Timeline…"
Tony's brow furrowed again as he reread the term.
He remembered it appearing before, when he'd speculated that the "Sacred Timeline" referred to timelines unaffected by time travel.
But now, the diary said even the Avengers' time travel was considered part of it?
What the hell did that even mean?
So what is the Sacred Timeline, really? What determines what's "sacred"?
Why were the Avengers' actions acceptable—but Loki's weren't?Why was he punished while they were praised?
There had to be a reason.A rule.
Of course, this was the first time the diary had mentioned the acronym "TVA."
But given it had already talked about the Time Variance Authority, Tony instantly understood the connection.
"TVA… Time Variance Authority," he murmured. "Looks like the time cops are real after all."
