Chapter 39 - Shadow of Justice

"Creator," Karmas said sternly, standing before the throne. "Why are the laws being broken more and more often? This must stop. Everything should be by justice."

The Creator, seated in the shadows of the grand hall, answered calmly:

"Sometimes, Karmas, what defies the rules is justice. But well done. I wasn't wrong to give you the power of Order."

"But…" Karmas closed his eyes for a moment — then snapped them open. "Then why do you allow this to continue?"

The Creator fell silent for a second, then added coldly:

"Do not try to fight Kronoran. Even with your abilities — you cannot defeat him."

Karmas turned and walked away, rage burning in his eyes.

"I'll destroy anyone who tramples the law," he hissed through clenched teeth.

Meanwhile, deep in the forest…

Arden and Akito were fighting side by side against a colossal black serpent. A monstrous body, covered in spikes and thick hide, deflected most attacks with ease.

"Arden, switch!" Akito shouted.

Skill Activated: [Fang of Deception]

In an instant, they swapped places. Akito dove from above, blade-first. The sword pierced the thick scales, slicing open the serpent's belly — green blood poured out.

"Arden," Akito asked, "Why do you think the sixth Guardian hasn't appeared yet?"

"No idea… Maybe it's just not time yet."

They returned to base. Elian was already waiting at the entrance.

"Young master, if you have a moment… would you like to try my trial?"

"Of course. Let's go."

In a flash, they were transported to another forest — dense, with an eerie atmosphere. From above, blue energy bolts rained down, exploding on contact with the ground.

"Behind the trees!" Elian shouted, drawing his crossbow.

Quest: Defeat the Ahrs (0/25)

"They're airborne… this won't be easy," Akito muttered. "Elian! Use your skill!"

Elian darted back under the storm of fire, then—

Skill Activated: [Phantom Veil]

Akito turned semi-transparent and began scaling the treetops. He drew the Chaos Blades, but the blue bolts still pierced through his body. He leapt — but the enemy dodged. He crashed to the ground.

"Damn it… how do I reach them…?"

Guardian No. 6 Activated

A faint whistle came from above — then:

[Enemy Defeated (1/25) (7/25) (14/25) (25/25)]

From the light emerged a girl with blue wings, white hair, and ice-colored eyes. She was nearly naked — only feathers covered her chest and lower body. Her figure was flawless. Her voice was melodic:

"My master… I will fulfill your every desire. Would you… like me to give you an heir?"

"Uhh… no, no, no," Akito blushed, scratching the back of his head.

He opened the system:

[Guardian #6]

Role: Suppressor

Height: 163 cm

Weight: 60 kg

Age: 2300+

"I'll call you… Kasumi."

"A lovely name… my sweet master," she whispered, folding her wings behind her.

"Alright. Let's go back. I want everyone leveled up today."

Back at the base, tension filled the air — everyone immediately felt a foreign aura. Aurelia was the first to approach the newcomer.

"You… you're Akito's new Guardian?" she asked with a smile, floating beside the winged girl. "Finally! Another girl… Sitting between all these guys was getting boring. Come on, I'll show you around."

"Yes," Kasumi nodded softly, following her.

"That's the sixth Guardian?" Arden asked, stepping closer.

"Yes," Akito confirmed. "And now we've got two S-ranked Guardians: Elian and Kasumi."

"…What? That pale librarian is S-rank?" Kenshi scoffed. "Don't joke. In a fight, he barely counts as C-rank."

"Jarl," Targus said seriously. "I want to become S-rank too."

"We're leveling everyone today," Akito promised. "And by the way, Kenshi… Elian now has a new skill from the System. So I wouldn't call him weak anymore."

"Then I'll go next," Kenshi said, standing — only for Targus to cut in:

"I'm going first with the Jarl."

"Go eat something, fatty," Kenshi muttered.

A flame of challenge lit up in Targus's eyes.

"After the trial, I'll be waiting for you."

"Enough," Akito said firmly. "Let's go, Kenshi."

The trial area was… strangely peaceful.

They stood in a golden field of crops. A small river ran nearby, mist curling above it. In the distance — a quiet village.

"It's hard to believe this place isn't real," Akito said softly, gazing at the scene. "System… you never stop surprising me."

They walked toward the village gates. Life was bustling — merchants shouting, children playing. But as soon as Akito and Kenshi crossed an invisible line, everything stopped.

"It's them! The ancient monsters!" voices cried. People scattered in panic.

"Hah! Told you to stay in the field," Kenshi smirked. "Look, you scared everyone."

Akito silently punched his armored shoulder. Only one small girl remained, unmoving.

"Are you… monsters?" she asked quietly.

Akito crouched down.

"Of course not. We're just passing through. Why is everyone running?"

"Because the greatest ninja in the world told us monsters would come… and eat us all."

At that moment, a system message flashed before Akito's eyes:

[Defeat: Hatari – The Black Demon of Hell]

"…What?" Akito thought.

His Eye of Truth activated. In the next instant — shurikens flew at him, flashing in the sunset light. He dodged. Kenshi parried a few, crossing his blades.

Between Akito and the girl appeared a man in tight black clothing, cut open from neck to navel. His body was covered in scars. A single massive scar crossed his face — from forehead to cheek. He gripped a katana with both hands.

"Filthy beasts… I won't let you eat anyone!" he roared.

Akito barely raised his blade in time to block the heavy strike. Sparks flew. A step back.

"…You're an idiot," Kenshi sighed, stepping up beside him. "Fine. Let's play."

They both dropped into fighting stances, the ground trembling beneath their feet.
