Alucard had lived two lives — or rather, two identities.
One was as an ordinary farmer, though for some reason, he possessed immense wealth.
The other was the reason for that wealth: bank robbery.
Once upon a time, he had been nothing more than a regular man — ordinary birth, ordinary school, ordinary graduation, ordinary job, and, eventually, an ordinary death.
That should have been the course of his life.
Like everyone else, he passed the time reading novels, watching anime, playing games.
Until… during his university years, something changed.
One morning, without warning, he awoke to find he had gained an ability — with no idea how or why.
The powers… of a vampire.
At first, he panicked. His biggest fear wasn't bloodlust or immortality, but that he might never again walk beneath the sun. Yet, whether because his vampiric bloodline was unusually strong, or because sunlight simply wasn't the weakness of his kind, he discovered he could stand in daylight without harm.
Once the fear faded, excitement took its place. He began to train his powers — and soon realized they mirrored almost perfectly those of a certain character from an anime he'd once watched:
Hellsing's Alucard — once known as Dracula, the Vampire Count.
Of course, "Count" was merely a title, not a measure of power.
There were differences, however. His abilities included:
Blood — the currency of the soul, the coin of life. To drink blood was to claim another's life as your own.
Blood Drain — by consuming another's blood, Alucard gained everything they were: memories, appearance, even their very existence. This worked not only on humans but also on animals — even horses.
Shadowmorph — become shadow, pass through walls, move unseen.
Familiars — summon up to three non-human creatures he had consumed in the past.
Bat Swarm — dissolve into a cloud of vampire bats to escape. Any bat that escaped could, by feeding on human blood, regenerate into a complete body — and each body could spawn a thousand more bats. Individually weak, but a perfect tool for retreat.
Regeneration — no matter the injury, as long as his heart remained intact, he could recover in moments.
Immortality — for humans or humanoid prey. Each life completely consumed granted him one extra life. Even if killed, he would rise again — unless every single one of his stored lives was destroyed. For example: if he had consumed one million people, he would have to be killed one million times before staying dead. And no matter the attack, only one life could be taken at a time.
Separation — split off a duplicate body infused with many stored lives, allowing his true body to hide undetected. Up to two such duplicates could exist.
The River of Death — his ultimate ability. Every soul he had ever consumed could be released at once, each able to wield the abilities they had in life. They became his loyal servants. But this was both his strongest and weakest moment — because in using it, he released all his stored lives. Kill him once in that state, and he would die for good.
And there was more. He could use blood to strengthen his body, turn objects — even cars or ships — into familiars, and wield blood itself as a weapon in countless ways.
With these powers, Alucard killed strangers on the road, stole their faces, and when money was short, robbed banks.
He always escaped using his abilities.
But his crimes eventually drew the attention of the "Inner World" — a shadowy branch of the government that dealt with supernatural threats.
So Alucard stopped. He had no desire to be reckless, to be caught, or to have his peaceful life shattered.
He liked peace. But peace did not stop him from killing in order to swell the River of Death with more souls. And when life required it, he robbed banks — the simplest way to get what he wanted.
Of course, he failed more than once.
Later, he returned to his parents' hometown and lived quietly for a time.
Until, once again, he went to sleep… and awoke in a different world entirely.
"One Piece…" he murmured, lips curling into a smile. "Now this… could be fun."
