Chapter 36 - "The Fourth Floor of Despair"

Chapter:36

The fourth floor, consisting of thirteen rooms, had become the most terrifying place in the entire school.

Out of those thirteen rooms, nine were classrooms where the LED screens were still powered on. Different recorded lessons were playing on each screen, with the volume set to around fifty. The calm voices of teachers continued echoing through the classrooms as if it were just another ordinary school day.

But reality could not have been more different.

Those peaceful lectures were now being drowned out by a far more horrifying sound.

Outside the two classrooms located in the middle of the left column of the fourth floor, a terrifying horde of zombies had gathered. They staggered aimlessly through the corridor, bumping into the walls, slamming their bloodstained hands against the locked classroom doors, and twisting their necks into unnatural angles as they collided with one another.

Their deep, monstrous growls echoed relentlessly through the hallway, so loud that even the voices coming from the LED screens seemed faint in comparison.

Every zombie looked more horrifying than the last.

Some had their ears completely torn off, as though they had been ripped away by force.

Others had only one arm remaining, while the other had been crushed beyond recognition, hanging by nothing more than a few strips of flesh.

Some were dragging themselves forward with only half of a leg still attached.

Several had large portions of skin ripped from their faces, exposing decaying flesh and cracked bone beneath.

As time passed, the blood covering their bodies was no longer fresh. It had dried into dark, almost black stains, while their open wounds had begun to rot. The decaying flesh made their appearance even more grotesque and terrifying than before.

Their chilling growls, combined with the heavy thuds of their bodies crashing into walls and the repeated banging against the classroom doors, echoed throughout the entire fourth floor.

It no longer felt like a school.

It felt like death itself had claimed the entire floor.

...

Yet despite the nightmare surrounding them, a tiny spark of life still remained.

Only three students on the entire fourth floor had somehow managed to survive.

Two of them were hiding inside one of the classrooms.

A seventeen-year-old girl named Jinjain and a boy named Adam.

They sat pressed tightly against the wall in the corner of the classroom where the zombies outside could not see them.

Both of them were terrified beyond words.

Their faces had turned pale, and they breathed as quietly as possible, afraid that even the faintest sound might attract the monsters waiting outside.

Jinjain's hands trembled uncontrollably. She kept both hands tightly over her mouth, desperately trying to suppress any scream that might escape in panic.

Silent tears streamed down her cheeks, yet she did not even dare wipe them away.

Beside her, Adam struggled to appear calm, but the beads of sweat running down his forehead, his trembling hands, and the frantic pounding of his heart revealed the fear he was desperately trying to hide.

Every few seconds, he glanced nervously toward the classroom door before immediately looking away again, terrified that it might burst open at any moment.

The classroom itself looked like the aftermath of a massacre.

Books were scattered across the floor.

Desks and chairs lay overturned, as though students had knocked everything aside while desperately trying to escape.

School bags, notebooks, water bottles, pens, stationery, and other belongings were strewn across every corner of the room.

Dark bloodstains covered the floor and splattered across the walls.

In some places, the blood had spread so violently that it looked as though someone had been hurled against the wall with tremendous force.

Long, dried trails of blood stretched across the floor, silently revealing that several wounded students had crawled in a desperate attempt to survive before ultimately meeting their end.

The entire classroom stood as a silent witness to the brutal battle that had taken place only a short time ago.

Many helpless and unfortunate students had fought until their very last breath to stay alive...

But fate had shown them no mercy.

One by one, they had all fallen victim to the bloodthirsty outbreak.

And now...

Inside that once lively classroom, only two beating hearts remained.

Jinjain...

And Adam.

Two fortunate survivors...

Who had no idea whether they would live long enough to see another sunrise.
