An ordered society, even with all it's attendant problems and flaws, had it's advantages. In such structured societies where there were functional policing and judicial institutions, Elts found it difficult to act on their darkest desires as the existence of such institutions served as enough deterrence to those who would have pursued their interests or pleasures at the the detriment of other members of the society and or or the society at large.
Here however, were every one had been thrown into an unknown and largely unstructured world, there were no such things.
' what are those guys thinking!'
For Mike who was just an average paper-pushing office worker, the concept of enslaving his fellow Elt for his his benefit, or for any purpose whatsoever, was atrocious. Yes slavery still existed in certain underdeveloped parts of his world, but it was seriously frowned upon. Here however, he witnessed Elts like him discussed about the acqusition fellow members of their species as slaves to be sent to their deaths like one would talk about having a specific treat for dinner.
' They can't be thinking of doing that to their fellow Elt!'
Mike was no arbiter or active of justice, neither did he harbor any thoughts of becoming one now . In fact, he was just barely surviving in this new reality he found himself .However, there were some things that he believed were outside the boundaries of morality and sensibility. This group of Elts, as he noticed, were not gathering slaves to subject to forced labour for their benefits or towards a noble cause. No! Rather, there were hunting for slaves to throw into the cruel jaws of battle and death so that they could gather as much information as they could about their subject of interest.
Things were becoming descending into chaos more faster than he could follow.
' If this anomaly is the new normal, then we need the strength of a united race and not that of a few powerful but divided individuals.'
This world was as terrible as it was unknown. In the past few days he spent here, he discovered a little of how terrible this world was. And there just being introduced into it. There were still creatures roaming around in this place that he, with all his newly found knowledge of this environment, would not dare to face in battle like, the one that had clawed him in his torso, and he was sure that there were more terrible ones out there . Also, even if he had not seen them, there were surely creatures that wielded supernatural abilities in this world, in this reality and even right here within the Genesis-remnant mountain range. After all, if Elts could wield supernatural abilities, then, what were the odds that the creatures that were native to this place couldn't do the same?
If what he had observed so far had any truth to it and if every Elt found here originally came from his world, then there would be in so much trouble if there were all left to carry out their own agendas without being answerable to anyone or any institutions of justice and or or policing or having a sense of shared responsibility at least.
But he could not effect any change while he was still this weak.Even now , he was still the target of a slave hunting party. For so long, his priorities were on surviving to see the next day, avoiding danger and gathering enough food to sustain himself. Now though, he knew he had to change those priorities. so, he got himself a new to do list.
First, he had to find a new place he could rest when he got tired while working better at staying undetected.Because if he had done that sooner, then he would not have had a need to change his place of rest in the first place.Fortunately, the place his tracks were discovered was not he had come to know as his spawn point, or even remotely close to it since he had a habit of resting any where but there .Because, even if he had not discovered the importance of it,he knew he would be in serious trouble if it was discovered to be what it was. Then he needed to work out a plan to foil the slave hunters plot and save as many lives as possible in a more pragmatic-than-heroic move. He also needed to get himself a more-of-a-durable-and-less-of-a-makeshift weapon that could function both as a long range and a melee weapon. Because, if his voice must be heard, there must be a sufficient and recognized level of strength backing it up and that could only be won through many battles that just his knowledge of poisons, his use of traps and his quick wits alone may not bring him out of. Furthermore, he needed to learn more about Fragments, Aspect beasts,Pet beasts, what they were and how they functioned as well as understand all the things that the unfeeling and disembodied voice had listed. Finally, he needed to find out how the slave hunters got their supernatural powers as well as acquire one for himself since he could be facing them in battle in the nearest future in his attempt at saving their acquired slaves which was one of the first steps in his long term survival plan.
