"It's too early for a beast that high in rank to show up." Dustan kept his eyes on the huge screen display before everyone. His voice startled everyone because he usually doesn't watch the game at this time.
Dustan took a sip from the wine glass in his hand; some of his muscles were exposed from the design of his white clothing that was mixed with loose silver chains, which made his appearance more unique.
"This obviously has something to do with the system." Thalric said, "It's forcing them to fight, and I'm sure that this is a way to get rid of the weaklings. They have been alive longer than necessary."
"Your hero hasn't fully revealed himself yet." Zinnia eyed Dustan with curiosity. "Why are you here?" Her question made the others pull their eyes away from the screen displaying the players.
"Faye told me that there is a player her foresight powers can't see anything about. It's strange." He said in curiosity. "What is the name of this player?" He pointed to Lucian.
Thalric uses his magic to check Lucian's profile and give Dustan the details he wants. There was nothing special about the kid, but Dustan was still intrigued.
"Faye must have made a mistake; I bet that stupid kid is going to be the first one who gets eaten by Achiloq." Elderic snickers, letting his back fall into his seat as his eye goes back to the screen.
"Faye never makes a mistake." Zinnia stated strongly. Faye powers deals on control over time and foresight. Her predictions about the future always came to pass.
'Where is she?' Zinnia thought. Noticing that she wasn't watching the show with them like she always did.
Faye was locked up in her bedchamber; her beautiful, godlike appearance was covered up as though she were a man. Her leg crosses as she floats in the air, trying again and again to see what was in Lucian's future. It has become her obsession over the last few days.
"Let's make a bet on who is going to die first." Orion's voice was filled with excitement. Everyone around him agreed to bet except for Zyros and Dustan, who kept their focus on the person the others bet would die first, Lucian.
—------------------------------------------------------
Lucian moved with caution, raising his rusted blade at the beast even though it was no help. Luna froze in fear, and her eyes drained completely of all hope after the beast appeared. Lucian has been dragging Luna behind him, trying his best to protect her even though he didn't have the power for it.
"Get behind the captain." A guy shouted to Nova, who kept striking the beast with her lightning, but nothing worked against Achiloq's hard skin that was full of sharp scales made of bones.
The beast growls loudly and reveals its snake like tongue. Although it was blind with no eyes, it had sharp senses. Its piercing scales detached from its body and flew towards those who attacked it with magic.
Lucian took in a ragged breath. Although he had a useless weapon in his hand, he didn't know how to use it. The beast was more focused on Nova, Thorin, and his teammates, who attacked it confidently with their magic.
A shield appeared in the air against the scales of the beast. One of the scales broke through the shield and pierced one of Thorin's teammates in the leg.
The guy who had been wounded cried out in pain, "No. I'm not supposed to die; I'm in the hero team." He looked towards his teammates for help, but their frightful gaze was on the beast, who sniffed the air and followed the scent of blood; it came closer to the one who was wounded. "Help me!" He shouted desperately. "Thorin!"
Thorin turned his back and gathered the rest of his teammates together.
The beast releases a dark green breath that fills the air before it begins chewing on its injured victim, tearing the human apart limb by limb with its teeth.
Luna moves quickly and covers Lucian's nose. "It's poison." Her other hand was on her face.
Everyone else reacts and covers their nose after hearing what she said.
Lucian used his rusted blade to tear out two pieces of his shirt and passed them over to Luna. "I don't know if it's possible, but try pouring out some of your magic into it to nullify the effect of the poison."
Luna took it and was surprised with Lucian's ideas; she was too terrified to think straight, and Lucian, who had close to no magic, was thinking about ways they could survive this mess. She focused and did what Lucian suggested, to her surprise and everyone else's. It worked. Although her weak healer magic won't work for long, it will last until the poison in the air fades away.
Another healer who was on Thorin's team copied her technique.
Lucian feels his head getting clearer after using the enchanted piece of cloth Luna gave to him; he tied it around his nose.
Thorin was filled with rage as he heard his teammates praise Lucian for his bright ideas.
'Those damn losers would have been long dead if we weren't here. There's no way they can fight this monster alone.' Thorin thought. The beast was almost done eating his teammate. And before the rest of his team realized that he didn't have any unique strategy to defeat the beast and show off his strength like he always does. He needed to find a way to escape, using Lucian as a cover-up for his weakness.
"That damned bastard is trying to use us. He wants us to risk our lives, while he and his ghost girlfriend survived." Thorin's voice was loud enough for Luna and Lucian to hear. "Because of them and the bad luck they carry, we have lost one of our own." He stepped forward towards an opening in the dungeon and wondered why he didn't think of this from the start.
Thorin used his strong fist to destroy the path anyone could use to run away from the beast. Only two paths were left, the one he occupied with his teammates and the one behind the beast.
'What is he doing?' Lucian panics as he watches Thorin trying to convince Nova to come with him, and when Nova refuses, he runs away with his teammates, destroying the path behind him. The dungeon shakes as rock falls and blocks out the escape path Thorin uses, leaving a small opening behind.
"That damn motherf*cker is trapping us here with this thing." Luna hisses.
Lightning raged out of control in the palm of Nova's hands, but the growl of the monster behind her pulled her attention away from Thorin's evil chuckles.
