Chapter 16 - First Encounter with Gwen, Lizardman Attack!

"I can't believe the little witch gets jealous!"

Cassius gasped and rubbed his waist as if in pain. When a girl is serious, you pretend it doesn't hurt. When she's just playing, you pretend it hurts a lot. As a man who had experience with many women, Cassius was well-versed in this.

"You really are..."

BOOM!

Just as Wanda was about to pinch him harder, a loud bang came from ahead. They both looked up, and a massive cloud of dust billowed toward them. The people in their cars immediately got out to see what was happening.

"Ah! A monster!"

"Run!"

"What is that thing!"

"Don't block my way, get out of here!"

Screams and cries erupted from the crowd ahead. The street instantly descended into chaos as people ran backward. Cars in the front started to reverse. The suddenness of it all, coupled with the drivers' slow reactions, caused a massive pile-up. Horns, screams, and sirens all mixed together.

"What's going on?" Wanda unbuckled her seatbelt, her hand on the door handle, her brows furrowed as she looked ahead. This was the city center; something like this shouldn't be happening. Something terrible must have happened, and if so, she had to help. Otherwise, there would be a huge number of casualties.

"Looks like something's coming this way." Cassius got out of the car, his brows furrowed as he looked ahead.

Something was moving quickly through the thick dust cloud. The large figure's running caused the dust to swirl around it. The next second, the figure burst through the dust. It was a humanoid creature covered in green scales, with sharp, needle-like spines running from its head to its tail. It was wearing a torn white cloth that was barely recognizable as a shirt.

"ROAR!!!"

It effortlessly flipped over the cars in its path, its deafening roar terrifying the fleeing civilians.

"Dr. Connors!" Cassius instantly recognized the Lizard.

"Who?"

"What is that monster?!" Wanda got out of the car and stared at the Lizard in the distance, her expression grim. Scarlet chaos energy appeared around her wrist, ready to be unleashed. Even though people had cursed her, her sense of justice hadn't faded.

"ROAR!!!"

The Lizard tore off a car door and threw it at a nearby shop. The immense force caused the door to embed itself in the brick wall, sending pieces of rock flying everywhere!

"Damn it! I have to stop that monster!" Wanda's eyes narrowed, and she was about to fly into the air. Just then, Cassius grabbed her wrist. "Don't rush, someone's here!"

Between the tall buildings, a nimble white figure darted through the air.

"Hey, big lizard, those aren't your toys." A light voice rang out as the white figure swung in an arc, kicking the Lizard to the ground. She did a 360-degree backflip and landed gracefully on the street.

"It's Ghost-Spider," Wanda said, immediately recognizing her. The Avengers had looked into this girl, so Wanda knew who she was.

"ROAR!!!"

The Lizard quickly got back up, its scaly left hand grabbing a street lamp and tearing it out of the ground. With a roar, it swung the lamppost at Ghost-Spider. The wind howled. Ghost-Spider did a backflip, nimbly dodging the attack.

"You're way too slow. You're not a very good lizard!"

"How about this? I'll send you to jail, and you can watch some nature shows. Maybe you'll find some inspiration!"

"Over here! Where are you looking? Don't run that way!"

Ghost-Spider continued to taunt the Lizard as she dodged its attacks. Her non-stop chattering made the already enraged Lizard even more furious. It threw the lamppost at her, then tore the door off a Hummer.

"ROAR!"

The crazed Lizard held the car door in front of it like a bulldozer and charged at Ghost-Spider.

"She talks a lot!" Wanda, who was watching from a distance, couldn't help but complain. This was the first time she had seen someone chatter so much in a fight. And her words weren't even repetitive.

"It seems all Spider-people have the motor-mouth trait!" Cassius said with a smirk, his expression relaxed. Out of all the superheroes, only a Spider-person would act like this in a fight.

BAM, BAM, BAM!

The sounds of impact filled the street. The Lizard was spun around as it chased Ghost-Spider, unable to catch the agile hero. It was like a pesky fly buzzing in its ear, driving it even crazier. As it was trying to catch the dodging Ghost-Spider, the Lizard's eyes suddenly caught sight of Cassius and Wanda in the middle of the road. Its eyes flashed red when it saw them!

"Looks like this stupid lizard has its eyes on us," Cassius said with a helpless shrug. They were just watching the fight, and now they were dragged into it.

"ROAR!!!"

"Die, both of you!"

The Lizard's green arms bulged with veins, and it swung the car door and charged at Cassius.

"Damn it! Get out of the way!" Ghost-Spider's expression changed dramatically. She didn't know why, but she hadn't noticed the two people standing there before. Faced with this, she gritted her teeth and stopped dodging, leaping to stand directly in front of Cassius.

The Lizard's voice became excited when it saw Ghost-Spider appear in front of it. It raised the car door and slammed it down on her.

"Hmph!" Gwen gritted her teeth and raised her hands to block the fierce attack. The immense force drove her heels several inches into the ground.

The Lizard grinned, its sharp teeth looking particularly menacing. Everything was going according to its plan. Before Gwen could react, it whipped its tail, and the powerful blow knocked her to the ground. It then raised the car door and slammed it down on Gwen with immense force, a strong wind accompanying it.

Gwen looked at the approaching car door, her face pale, with no time to dodge. In that last moment, fear made her close her eyes.

BANG!

Dust flew everywhere, and a loud crash echoed through the street. But Gwen realized she was okay. She squinted her eyes open and saw a tall figure standing in front of her. The man was wearing a black T-shirt, one hand in his pocket, and he had calmly caught the heavy car door with his other hand.

"Step back!"
