Chapter 6: A body not my own

Nyx (Yunxia's Body) – POV

A sharp pain tore through my skull like a thousand burning needles as I pushed myself off the floor where I had been thrown. My vision was hazy, but the disgust boiling in my chest was crystal clear.

I staggered toward the door, every step a protest from aching muscles. But of course Yue'er wasn't done with her performance. She rushed over, her voice dripping with false concern.

"Sis, where are you going? I'm sorry Li Shen pushed you. Please don't be angry… I didn't mean to—"

I turned my head and gave her a look that could curdle blood. If I didn't already feel like vomiting, her face would've done it.

Li Shen, ever the fool, stepped in front of her like some knight for a poisoned princess.

"Yunxia, enough! Why are you making that kind of face at your sister?!"

I didn't have the patience for his moral theater. Without a word, I brushed past them and left the house, their cries and crocodile tears fading behind me.

Outside, the winter air bit at my skin. I glanced at my wristwatch.

14:45. January 6th, 2029.

I froze.

A year and a few months. That was all the time left before the apocalypse.

My fingers curled into a fist. I didn't know who I was anymore Yunxia, Nyx, or something in between but one thing was certain, I couldn't waste a second. If time was money, then I would buy every moment I needed… no matter the cost.

But all those plans, all that resolve.were abruptly put on hold.

I barely made it to the one place I could call mine a small apartment hidden from the world, bought with the original Yunxia's savings. I shut the door behind me then my legs buckled.

I collapsed.

A hot, metallic taste filled my mouth. it was blood. It splattered across the cold tiles.

The poison.

Even now, it gnawed through this fragile body like acid.

The room spun. My vision darkened. I could feel myself slipping sinking back toward that endless void.

But then

A flicker.

A pulse deep in my chest.

Something shifted, Something old, Something furious. I didn't understand yet

and in that razor thin moment between fading and waking, I understood

This body had awakened.

not just me but also her
