Chapter 86 - Gift Giving Time

My adopted family were the first ones to come up to me. Allisa held a small black box, Melinda and James held their hands behind their backs. So each got a different gift..

Allisa was borderline shaking, but there was still a grin on her face.

What is it? She handed it to me. I tilted my head whilst looking at it. Moments later she had me open it.

Bracelet? A dark bracelet made out of obsidian…? I already look emo enough too. I still smiled as I took it. Allisa had me sling it around my wrist and pulled me into a hug.

"Thank you… I love it." I stated as I held her head on my shoulder.

"Mhm!"

Allisa held me tight, tighter than she has ever before.

At least she's happy… I felt the beads of obsidian shake every time she moved. Don't get me wrong… I am too. But I feel like I look gothic enough. Though, I do remember a few kids who liked that style back on earth..

"Oh! Apparently it gives you a boost… in what was it, dad?"

"Endurance.. Although not really much." James replied. He was holding his hands behind his back. Melinda leaned on him with a smile.

"Oh, mom and dad have a special gift for you." Allisa pulled away and moved to the side.

An eyepatch? I tilted my head as I stared at James's gift. It was a black eyepatch with no design, or anything special; however I could sense something radiating off of it.

"So, this will prevent things from getting into your eye." James reached his hand above my head. I felt like pulling my head back and flinching. "It'll also blend in with your hair. Oh, it'll help with eye infections too, I found an old friend of mine who could enchant it."

"T-thank you… Da- Dad…" I thanked him… the blurrier vision I had was immediately covered in a pitch black. But I could see him flinch when I spilled out dad. He had a confused look, then it turned into a wide smile.

"You're welcome!" He exclaimed before pulling me into a gigantic hug. Both his arms wrapped around my head and he pushed it into his chest.

"Way to put ours to shame." Verd mused in a soft tone. He grabbed both his kids and Sage's… arm and waited behind James. Really great timing…

I felt his warmth spread across my body, if I did have a fully formed tail it'd be wagging uncontrollably. I have no idea why I was… this happy. It felt like all the worry I had went away.

It felt like my heart was jumping. Not just that, backflipping…

"It might be a bit weird to look at… But it blends in with your hair."

Melinda pulled out a mirror, and pulled away James. To replace him she shoved the mirror in front of my eye.

Who- Oh wait… My left eye was completely covered. Did they enchant it with a blending ability?Or was it placed perfectly-?

I couldn't see the patch part… and the way James positioned it my bangs went over where my eye was. The only thing noticeable was when I put my hand there.

It was smooth to—

"Your dad was talking about how you should keep it there…" Melinda grabbed my hand and held it. "There might be another issue behind it… So try to keep it on as much as you can, okay?"

"I understand " I nodded before removing my hand.

Seconds later Melinda… Hobbled back to James. They exchanged a few wordless sayings before she sat down.

"It might not be as good..-"

Before Verd could finish, Sage somehow took a long box off his arms and nearly dropped it towards me.

"As James' and… Melinda's…" Verd's eyebrow twitched before wrapping his arm around Sage. "Also Sage's injuries are healing fine. And the kids are doing a lot better… So thank you and happy birthday, Yukina."

"Thank you-"

I stared at this rather large box… Definitely wasn't an accessory. Verd and his family watched in anticipation…

When I unwrapped it and opened the box I felt my head go blank. Why did they all go black-?!

"See…" Verd let out a sigh. "See I told you James, your present will make ours seem insignificant."

"Yukina loves it."

"Why did you all get her black?"

"Uh… That color looks the best on her. I mean, look at her hair color just fits"

"In our previous lives… She'd need to go to a therapist wearing that much black."

YES YES I WOULD! Although I probably need one either way now that she mentions it… haaa…

Anyways, what Verd got me was a cloak, a black one at that. He explained it gave me a 'good' buff to my durability, endurance and strength.

To summarize the next few moments, Verd felt down about how I reacted… Can't help it… But I felt excited.

I told him I did love it, more than he thought. That… seemed more of a relief to him than I could imagine.

Where's Shaun? Quickly I felt my heart sink when he wasn't in view. He wasn't even in the room…

Even when I got the reason, I still felt disappointed at this news. He got too drunk and left to his room to lay down.

That-

"He'll have your gift tomorrow, don't worry." Was the only thing I was told. But… that's not what I was feeling about it. I couldn't even formulate it to words…. I don't think I've ever felt this before.

But they quickly diverted my attention— well Shen did with a heavy knock at the dining room's door.

It did catch everyone's attention… did she have to be so damn loud?!

"Yukina, I have your gift in your room!" Shen exclaimed as she waved from the dining room's door. "Actually… it's a few gifts, 'kay?"

"S-Sure…"

I guess it is gift time… Everyone turned as I walked towards Shen. Why do they all seem antsy? Is it something that grand? My curiosity grew as she led me up the stairs and into my room.

How did she even get there in the time I was gone? Nothing was touched inside, aside from a few papers laying on my bed.

"My other gifts… well, the first part is over there." Shen pointed towards the papers. "Read them another time, okay? If you want to know I found where the you now is from."

Wait- what? How did- I rushed towards these papers— how did she find-

"It wasn't hard. Your mother, father and grandmother I saved them fifteen years ago- on this day." Shen's footsteps resounded behind me. The original Yukina's mom's face replayed in my mind… "They were recognizable…"

Shen wrapped her arms around my waist and laid her head on my back and continued. "You look like your biological mom, just taller and your hurt eye. They wanted to leave notes… oh and don't worry I told them you got amnesia so if you ever see them again and you don't have those memories… They'll understand."

"W-why are there five of them..?"

"Well… You also have a little brother and sister."
