The Death Mountains, being the largest soul beast habitat on the Wuhun Continent, naturally housed hundred-thousand-year-level soul beast kings. Among the eight great soul beast kings recognized by the soul master world of the Wuhun Continent, five resided within the Death Mountains.
These five included:
The Three-headed Golden Lion King, ranked eighth, with a cultivation of approximately 300,000 years.
The Gale Yellowfinch King, ranked seventh, with about 350,000 years of cultivation.
The Nine-tailed Fox King, ranked fifth, with around 450,000 years.
The Earth Tyrant Dragon King, ranked fourth, with approximately 500,000 years.
And finally—
Ranked first, hailed as the Soul Beast Emperor by all soul beasts on the Wuhun Continent, including even the second and third beast kings. This was the Wuhun Continent's so-called Demon Emperor—Heavenly Demonic Spirit Emperor—with a cultivation surpassing 800,000 years.
Legend had it that this so-called Demon Emperor was the very first lifeform to appear on the Wuhun Continent and the creator of the Death Mountains. Both the second-ranked Northern Pole White Bear King and the third-ranked Southern Flame-devouring Sparrow Emperor were said to have once received guidance from it. Hence, the Demon Emperor commanded the central region and ruled over both poles, making it the undisputed Emperor of all soul beasts on the Wuhun Continent.
"This Demon Emperor sounds even harder to deal with than the Beast God, Di Tian!" Jiang Nannan sighed.
"Seriously. At least Di Tian could only command the beasts of the Great Star Dou Forest and had no sway over those in the Extreme North or the Devil Forest. But this Demon Emperor can apparently command all soul beasts on the Wuhun Continent. That's definitely beyond Di Tian's league," Qian Lingyi agreed.
"That's for sure! If Di Tian hadn't been born ten thousand years earlier than me, how would he dare call himself the Beast God?" Snow Empress popped out, her little face full of disdain.
Far away, on a distant continent, a black-robed man suddenly sneezed. Muttering to himself, he said, "What's going on? Why do I feel like someone's calling my name?"
"Haha, let's not worry about Di Tian for now," Zhu Ziyang chuckled, then his face grew serious. "I have a feeling this Demon Emperor might be tied to my trial. We might end up going against it."
"What! Then what do we do?" The three girls immediately wore worried expressions. "That Demon Emperor is an 800,000-year soul beast. Do we really stand a chance?"
"Don't worry, Dad!" Snow Empress said solemnly. "If we really do end up facing that Demon Emperor, I'll do my best to hold it off. Our target is the Death God's divine weapon, not the Demon Emperor. Right?"
"Mm! It's just a guess for now," Zhu Ziyang smiled, comforted. "Besides, even if we do have to fight it… I have a trump card!"
He was thinking of the Heavenly Stem God Locking Array, and with that thought, his resolve solidified.
"Alright! Let's first change into clothing that fits the Wuhun Continent's style. Ours clearly screams 'outsider'!" Zhu Ziyang said. "Once we're dressed properly, we'll head for the Death Mountains."
"Okay!" the three girls replied in unison.
They were now somewhere along the northeastern coast of the Wuhun Continent—either within the Askari Kingdom or the Milan Empire, since they'd come from the direction of Violet Port. So they decided to head south, as the Death Mountains lay in the central region of the continent.
Soon, they arrived at a small town called Plum Blossom. There, they purchased local attire and changed before setting off again.
Thanks to the map Zhu Ziyang found in the Dimensional Library, the group navigated smoothly and arrived at the section of the Death Mountains located within the Milan Empire.
As night began to fall, the four decided to camp at the mountain's base and wait until morning to enter. They lit a bonfire, pitched tents, and sat around eating and chatting about the Wuhun Continent.
Interestingly, the soul master ranking system on the Wuhun Continent was identical to that of the Douluo Continent—Soul Scholar up to Titled Douluo. Perhaps this was a fundamental rule of the Douluo World that didn't change with the continent or civilization. However, unlike on the Douluo Continent where most Titled Douluo had two-character titles (like Dragon God Douluo or Dragon Emperor Douluo) and occasionally one-character titles (like the historical Bone and Sword Douluos), on the Wuhun Continent, three-character titles were the norm. For example, the Grand Duke of the Violet Clan in the Milan Empire was known as the Violet Douluo.
The three girls found this amusing and started discussing what their own three-character titles might be.
"Sister Lexuan, you're the only one among us who's already a Titled Douluo. If it were up to you, what kind of three-character title would you choose?" Jiang Nannan asked, curious.
"I actually like my current title, Moon God Douluo," Zhang Lexuan replied, smiling. That title was granted to her after obtaining her ninth soul ring, by the elders of Tianyuan Pavilion. Then she added playfully, "If I had to pick a three-character one… hmm… Golden Moonlight Douluo?"
That suggestion was clearly meant in jest, and Jiang Nannan and Qian Lingyi burst into giggles.
After a while, Jiang Nannan declared, "Hehe, I already thought about mine! Once I become a Titled Douluo, I want to be called Moonlight Douluo—doesn't that sound great?"
"Moonlight Goddess… Moonlight Douluo… Hmm, not bad," Zhu Ziyang said thoughtfully.
"I don't want any other title," Qian Lingyi said firmly. "Just 'Angel' is enough. There's no title more fitting for me."
"Agreed," Zhu Ziyang nodded. "The Angel Douluo title held great importance in the Douluo Continent's history. It's time it returns to the world."
"Hey, hey! We're supposed to be coming up with three-character titles!" Zhang Lexuan protested.
"Heehee, I think Nannan's would be easy: Silver Moonlight Douluo. That matches you perfectly, Sister Lexuan!" Qian Lingyi teased.
"Eh?! No way!" Jiang Nannan instantly protested. She shot back, "Then yours should be… White Angel Douluo!"
"Ew! That sounds so lame!" Qian Lingyi made a face.
After months spent traveling across the ocean together, the relationship between Jiang Nannan and Qian Lingyi had become much more relaxed. Though they still bickered, they had learned to get along.
Watching the girls quarrel playfully, Zhang Lexuan smiled warmly, then turned to Zhu Ziyang and asked, "Ziyang, what about you? Your soul power is already at Rank 86. You'll probably become a Titled Douluo within a year or so. Have you thought about your title?"
"Yeah, yeah! What'll your title be, Brother?" Jiang Nannan and Qian Lingyi both chimed in, turning to him eagerly.
"Me? It's simple! I'll just take the first character of each of my martial souls," Zhu Ziyang said with a grin.
"Jingtian!" Jiang Nannan and Qian Lingyi chorused.
"Jingtian Douluo… Has a powerful ring to it!" Zhang Lexuan said softly.
The firelight flickered across the young man's face—resolute, bright, deep with unknowable strength. Who knew what he was thinking at that moment?
At dawn, morning dew glistened on their tents. Zhu Ziyang emerged first, stretching with a contented expression. Jiang Nannan followed shortly after, her cheeks slightly flushed, but her eyes filled with joy. From the other tent, Zhang Lexuan emerged calmly, a trace of envy in her eyes, while Qian Lingyi stepped out looking thoroughly aggrieved—it was clear she hadn't slept well.
Zhu Ziyang scratched his head awkwardly. He hadn't meant for things to go that way, but with youthful passion, months of restraint, and only one tent with Nannan… it was inevitable.
"Ahem, let's eat breakfast. Once we're done, we'll head into the mountain!" Zhu Ziyang quickly shifted gears, his expression calm again.
"Okay!" the three girls answered in unison—though their thoughts were far from identical.
