Two days later, at night.
In Zhu Ziyang's dormitory.
"Alright, tonight is the full moon. Let's go find a place with strong moonlight so you can absorb that Moonlight Spirit Crystal," Zhu Ziyang said.
"Okay!" Jiang Nannan nodded with excitement and immediately clung to his arm, saying, "Let's hurry! I've been dying of anticipation these past two days!"
The two left the dorm.
They soon found a quiet and secluded patch of moonlit grass near the freshmen dormitory woods. It was peaceful and remote—hardly anyone came here during the day, let alone at night—making it the perfect place for their purpose.
"This spot will do!" Zhu Ziyang said.
"Mm!" Jiang Nannan sat cross-legged on the grass. The gentle moonlight bathed her figure, and her already exquisite beauty gained an added sense of mystery and grace.
"Hold the Moonlight Spirit Crystal in your mouth, then activate your martial soul and absorb it with all your strength!" Zhu Ziyang instructed.
Jiang Nannan followed his instructions. Her cherry lips enclosed the crystal, and she closed her eyes to activate her martial soul. Bathed in moonlight, her body gradually took on a soft lunar hue. A faint pink-white rabbit silhouette appeared above her, eyes closed, mouth gently drawing in moonlight.
Zhu Ziyang's face showed satisfaction. Jiang Nannan's Soft-Boned Rabbit martial soul possessed a trace of moonline bloodline that was originally very thin. After two soul rings, it had only grown slightly stronger. By Zhu Ziyang's original estimation, she would have needed to reach five rings before it could evolve into a high-grade martial soul.
But plans couldn't compare to the surprises of fate. A single Moonlight Spirit Crystal had broken all expectations. Naturally, this was a good thing—Zhu Ziyang was delighted, and he wouldn't mind a few more miracles like this.
He was confident that once Jiang Nannan fully absorbed the crystal, her bloodline alone would evolve into the true Lunar Moon Bloodline. At that point, forget high-grade martial souls—she might even touch the level of a super martial soul.
Just imagining it made anticipation rise on his face.
Soft-Boned Rabbit, infused with pure lunar bloodline—what kind of martial soul would emerge from that?
Time passed quietly. Before long, Jiang Nannan's body became fully encased in a silver-white mist, forming a large cocoon of moonlight that greedily devoured the surrounding moonlight. If one looked carefully, they would see a faint silvery path connecting the moon above to the cocoon below.
It would be foolish to think such a phenomenon would go unnoticed. Sure enough, someone at Sea God Island sensed the change.
"Are there other students with moon-type martial souls in the academy?" Zhang Lexuan stood at her window, gazing toward the outer courtyard in confusion. After pondering briefly and drawing no conclusions, she let it go.
—
As midnight approached, Zhu Ziyang sat calmly nearby, keeping his eyes fixed on the glowing cocoon.
Finally, at dawn, Jiang Nannan completed her absorption. The cocoon cracked open and dissolved into shimmering silver light, flowing into her body. Behind her, however, the martial soul silhouette had yet to fully take shape. It remained a cocoon of light—strange and mysterious.
Zhu Ziyang, on the other hand, was thrilled. This meant her martial soul was undergoing a transformation and needed just a bit of external force to break through, shedding its current form and evolving beyond ordinary martial soul limits.
And that external force would be easy to provide.
The martial soul cocoon gradually faded from view. Jiang Nannan opened her eyes, excitement brimming on her face as she stood up and cried, "Brother!"
After absorbing the Moonlight Spirit Crystal, her entire aura had changed. The gentle charm in her became laced with an ethereal nobility. Her golden hair gleamed even more brilliantly, and her eyes had transformed into a mysterious, noble silvery-red like the full moon.
Zhu Ziyang was briefly stunned.
"How do you feel?" he asked with a happy grin, shaking off his daze.
"Aaah! My soul power broke through! Brother, I reached a breakthrough!" she shouted, losing all trace of her noble aura in her excitement. Of course, Zhu Ziyang didn't mind—his attention was entirely on her words.
She continued, "I reached rank 30!"
"Really?" Zhu Ziyang's eyes lit up, though he wasn't too surprised. After all, this was a peerless immortal treasure. A boost in soul power was to be expected. In fact, he suspected she hadn't just gained three ranks—after absorbing her next soul ring, she'd likely gain another two or three.
He asked, "What about your martial soul?"
"It's still the Soft-Boned Rabbit, but I can feel it transforming. It's just on the brink! All it needs is the right trigger!" Jiang Nannan beamed with excitement, throwing her arms around him. Her bright eyes shone with joy and affection.
"That's excellent!" Zhu Ziyang hugged her back. Looking into her flushed face, he pondered, then said, "Most likely, the trigger will come when you absorb your third soul ring."
"Mm-hmm!" Jiang Nannan nodded like a little hamster, cheeks puffing adorably with anticipation.
"It's getting late. Let's go back and rest," Zhu Ziyang said, patting her head gently. "This afternoon, I'll ask Dean Yan for permission to take you to hunt your third soul ring."
"Mm-hmm! This time I'm definitely getting a thousand-year ring!" Jiang Nannan chirped with excitement and determination.
"Of course you are!" Zhu Ziyang smiled.
The two returned to the dormitory.
At the dormitory entrance, Zhu Ziyang was surprised to see Mu En already lying on a bamboo chair outside.
Mu En seemed to sense their approach. He opened his cloudy eyes slightly, and when he saw Zhu Ziyang, a flicker of curiosity passed through his gaze. But when he looked at Jiang Nannan, surprise fully took over. Just days ago, this little girl had been at rank 27. Now, she was already at rank 30?
As he pondered, his eyes drooped again, and he spoke in a hoarse voice, "Why are you back so late?"
"Hehe, sorry to disturb you, Grandpa!" Jiang Nannan replied cheerfully, her voice playful and full of good spirits.
"Next time, don't stay out so late," Mu En grumbled.
"Yes!" Zhu Ziyang and Jiang Nannan answered in unison.
"Go on, then," Mu En waved them off.
"Thank you," Zhu Ziyang said, then led Jiang Nannan into the dormitory.
"Brother, who is that old man? Why is he always lying at the dorm entrance?" Jiang Nannan asked curiously, glancing back at Mu En.
"I don't know, but if he's living at Shrek Academy, he definitely isn't just some ordinary elder," Zhu Ziyang answered vaguely without telling her the truth. "Let's head up."
"Okay! Good night!" Jiang Nannan tiptoed and kissed Zhu Ziyang on the cheek, then blushed and scampered upstairs.
"This little rascal," Zhu Ziyang chuckled with a smile.
After she disappeared, he returned to the dormitory entrance.
"Teacher," he said respectfully, standing in front of Mu En.
"Hehe, that little girlfriend of yours seems to have gotten quite the lucky break," Mu En opened his eyes, looking at Zhu Ziyang with kindness.
"You're absolutely right, teacher!" Zhu Ziyang replied excitedly. "We got a Moonlight Spirit Crystal! After Nannan absorbed it, she reached rank 30!"
"I see." A rare glimmer of surprise flickered in Mu En's tranquil gaze. "What a lucky child. So, you want to take her to get her third soul ring?"
"Yes," Zhu Ziyang said. "I plan for her to get a soul ring from a soul beast called the Silver Moon Golden Armor Beast. Have you heard of it, teacher?"
"The Silver Moon Golden Armor Beast?" Mu En frowned slightly, then nodded. "That beast isn't easy to find. It only exists in the Mingdou Mountain Range of the Sun-Moon Empire. Looks like you really care about that girl."
"Hehe," Zhu Ziyang smiled but said nothing.
"Alright, then. Come to Sea God Lake this afternoon. Coincidentally, there's an old friend who wants to go out for a walk. I'll have her take you two," Mu En said with a chuckle. In his mind, he recalled something Yan Shaozhe had told him and shook his head silently.
"Yes, teacher!" Zhu Ziyang responded happily.
"Go get some rest now," Mu En said.
"Goodbye, teacher!" Zhu Ziyang returned to his dorm, humming contentedly.
