Chapter 145 - Chapter 145: The Obstructed Purification

As Luka led the Battle Sisters into the Starport dome, the Ecclesiarchy hymns chanted by the Sisters of the Sacred Rose Convent echoed through the Starport's sound system.

Don't misunderstand, this wasn't a celebratory song after winning, but an effective defensive measure against Chaos corruption.

One of the most direct manifestations of Chaos corruption is the appearance of various whispers in one's ears, causing people to involuntarily hallucinate and become irritable.

Therefore, playing hymns promptly can effectively boost morale and indeed serve to combat corruption.

As for how effective it is… well, if the Astra Militarum's big heads can endure Nurgle's plague with the small pills issued by the Department of Military Affairs, then hymns being able to combat Khorne's corruption isn't impossible.

In fact, the hymns chanted by the Sacred Rose Convent's Sisters of Battle are truly capable of dispelling Chaos corruption.

It was precisely for this reason that Luka, upon arriving at the Starport, immediately led his people to the broadcast room in the central dome of the Starport, and after taking control, left a team of Sacred Rose Convent Battle Sisters there, having them take turns broadcasting hymns praising the Emperor through the sound system.

Luka was not yet sure if this truly had an effect, but at least so far, he had not seen any signs of corruption.

After all, the attackers were a Khorne Warband; the corruption these axe-wielders brought was more about belligerence and bloodlust, and wouldn't manifest as particularly obvious physical corruption.

Moreover, the invasion time was very short, so even Warp incursions hadn't yet affected the Starport.

However, even so, the Tech-Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Priests of the Ecclesiarchy were already conducting large-scale purification rituals in the invaded areas to eliminate the pollution brought by the Chaos invasion.

Of course, the main purpose was to burn the bodies of the heretics and fallen Space Marines.

These things are the true sources of corruption and must be strictly disinfected; in terms of danger, they are no less hazardous than a blob of Nurgle's plague.

In a sense, Nurgle's plague is easier to deal with because you can generally tell at first glance from various symptoms whether the other party has been infected with Nurgle's plague.

But Khorne's corruption is not so easy to discern; most Khorne entities, apart from a flurry of blasphemous decorations and symbols, show no obvious mutations on their bodies.

This also makes Khorne's corruption very difficult to effectively eradicate, because often it's hard to determine whether a warrior fighting wildly is fighting for the Emperor or seeking to offer blood sacrifices to the Blood God.

Therefore, although the Imperium has means of identification and discernment, most of the time, facing Chaos corruption, direct extermination of everyone is the most appropriate and effective approach.

"While I can understand your reasons for doing so, Kaldor Draigo, I still cannot agree to your proposal to purify them all," Luka said, rejecting the Grey Knights Librarian with an unyielding voice.

Kaldor Draigo looked at Luka, frowning, and said, "Governor, I think you should clearly understand that any mercy at a time like this is fatal! You shouldn't need me to list the consequences if such matters cannot be effectively controlled."

As a Grey Knights Librarian, Kaldor Draigo rushed to help as soon as he learned of the Chaos invasion of the Starport and participated in the battle.

However, unlike other Astartes, Kaldor Draigo found Luka immediately after the battle and demanded that he execute all Defense Force soldiers who participated in this battle.

Kaldor Draigo even intended to execute the Adeptus Militarus as well.

"Of course I know; as an Inquisitor, I have access to far more information than you can imagine," Luka firmly refused, although he did understand the necessity of doing so: "Chaos corruption is omnipresent, but I cannot execute all loyal warriors who were just fighting tirelessly for the Emperor simply because they might be corrupted."

Hearing Luka's reply, Kaldor Draigo's expression turned very ugly; he stared at Luka's face, and seeing no sign of change in his expression, he said coldly, "Your answer makes me doubt whether you are competent enough as an Inquisitor."

Kaldor Draigo was very disappointed with Luka; the Governor before him did not act like a ruthless Inquisitor at all, but more like an incompetent person with womanly compassion, which made him very suspicious of how Luka had obtained the Emperor's grace.

Or was this a Chaos plot? Kaldor Draigo couldn't help but begin to suspect and overthink.

"You don't need to worry about that, as I said, don't be too extreme," Luka didn't say much to Kaldor Draigo, only turning to the Great Sister of the Sacred Rose Convent beside him and saying, "Great Sister, I trouble you to have the Sisters of the Convent retrieve a batch of 'loyalty' from my private cellar and send it up, while also maintaining the Starport's lockdown."

"As you wish, Governor," the Great Sister bowed in acknowledgment, then ordered the Sister beside her to carry out Luka's command.

Although Kaldor Draigo was still frowning, he seemed to understand what Luka intended to do: "You plan to use sanctus wine? How much effect can that have?"

"I'm not sure, but it's better than killing them all directly," Luka shook his head slightly, but he truly couldn't bring himself to do something like kill everyone: "They were just facing the attacks of Chaos Space Marines and heretics, fighting resolutely for the Emperor; they are all loyal and brave warriors, executing them like this would be a great waste of the Emperor's currency."

"But you should know that even a veteran's memoir that has merely come into contact with Chaos could trigger Chaos corruption centuries later," Kaldor Draigo reminded Luka that with Chaos corruption, not an iota of complacency could be afforded.

Luka nodded affirmatively at Kaldor Draigo's reminder, but he still insisted on his point of view: "I can only consider the present for now; as for things centuries from now, I don't have time to think about them.

If we can't get through the present, then there will be no centuries later for the Imperium.

Darkness has already enveloped the entire Imperium, and the light of the Astronomican will also extinguish in the future; I must accumulate all available strength, awaiting the return of the Son of God from the prophecy."

"Prophecy? What prophecy exactly? Is this related to the Emperor's blessing?" Kaldor Draigo's eyes immediately sharpened; he keenly detected the hidden information in Luka's words.

"The Imperium's darkest millennium is about to pass, but this is both an opportunity and a disaster; the galaxy will be torn apart, everything will change, the Son of God will return, and there is still a glimmer of hope in the darkness," Luka repeated this statement once more.
