Chapter 76 - Chapter 76 – The Greatest God and the Strongest God

"It's such a pity. If Lord Beerus ever found out someone was calling him an idiot, I wonder if he'd have nightmares?" Ken mused.

Merus simply chose not to say anything.

"Then tell me," Kibito asked, "this Beerus… this so-called fool… just how strong is he?"

"If the Supreme Kai is the greatest god of this universe, then the God of Destruction is the strongest god of this universe," Merus replied honestly. "To put it bluntly, Lord Beerus's strength is extraordinary. If he truly wanted to fight, there's no one who could oppose him."

Of course, Merus was being modest.

After all, his brother Whis could easily defeat Beerus.

But Angels were a humble race, so naturally he wasn't about to bring that up.

The Supreme Kai stayed silent.

Kibito also froze for a moment.

Then the two exchanged another look.

"What about Majin Buu?" the Supreme Kai suddenly asked.

"No problem at all," Merus said matter-of-factly.

"To put it another way," Ken added from the side, "if Lord Beerus got serious, one fart from him would blow Majin Buu into dust."

Supreme Kai: "…"

Kibito: "…"

Both of them burst into laughter on the spot, then looked at Ken and Merus as if they were complete idiots.

Another silence followed.

"As for what you said about Frieza's son, I might be able to help you with that," the Supreme Kai said evenly. "But as for this God of Destruction business, I'll just treat it as a story I once heard."

"Hmph, ignorance," Kibito snorted. "This universe's Supreme Kai is the greatest god. That's only natural! If there really is someone even he can't deal with, then it only means the universe is on the brink of destruction…"

Merus wiped away cold sweat in secret.

"He doesn't believe you," Ken muttered quietly to Merus.

"I think it's because the Grand Supreme Kai died rather suddenly back then… he never got the chance to explain a lot of things to the current Supreme Kai," Merus said with a wry smile. "And Lord Beerus spends most of his time asleep, so the two never had any contact…"

"Then speak of the second matter," the Supreme Kai urged.

"The second matter…" Merus turned his head toward Ken.

He knew perfectly well that this so-called "second matter" was just going through the motions—meant to make Ken realize how difficult it was to train his angelic powers, and to make him cherish the guidance he would soon receive from Sister Kusu.

Ken: "…"

"You want me to ask him about angelic power?" Ken sighed heavily.

"Y-Yes… after all, the Supreme Kai is the greatest god in the universe," Merus said with a dry smile, nodding lightly.

"He doesn't even know about the God of Destruction. How would he know about angels?" Ken shot back.

"Well…" Merus was left speechless.

You know… that actually makes sense.

"Angels? Do you mean those fictional gods from the mortal realm, the kind with wings on their backs?" the Supreme Kai chuckled.

Merus: "…"

Ken already knew the Supreme Kai was weak, so he wasn't surprised.

But the Kai just had to add, "There is nothing I, the Supreme Kai, do not know." He clasped his hands behind his back, brimming with confidence.

Ken: "…"

Merus wiped sweat again.

You don't even know about us Angels, yet you say there's nothing you don't know?

This was the first time Merus realized just how pitifully weak their universe's Supreme Kai really was.

Broly couldn't listen to it anymore.

"Who am I?" Broly asked, pointing a finger at his own nose.

Supreme Kai: "???"

The Kai glanced at Broly without answering.

"Do you really need Lord Supreme Kai to say it?" Kibito huffed. "I can tell you right now—you're a Saiyan. I'm not wrong, am I?"

"Missing a few words," Broly shook his head.

Kibito froze.

"I am! The legendary! Super!" Broly struggled to string the words together, then gave up halfway. "I'm a 'Leg Super'!"

"What nonsense! I don't have time to play games with some brat!" Kibito snapped impatiently.

Broly clenched his fists, eager to fight, and looked expectantly at Ken.

As long as Ken gave the word, he'd rush forward and give Kibito the beating of his life.

"Broly, calm down," Ken said soothingly. "You get angry too easily. If you can keep your emotions stable, maybe you'll be able to transform and still keep your sanity."

"Not angry! Not angry!" Broly repeated the phrase several times, convinced Ken was right.

"Ken, since we're already here, we might as well ask. Maybe the Supreme Kai really does know something," Merus said insincerely.

Ken: "…"

I really don't get you.

Why would you think he knows how to refine angelic power?

Wouldn't it be better to just take me straight to Whis?

"So tell me," the Supreme Kai said with a smile. "What problem do you want me to help you solve? I'm confident that with my ability, I can at least resolve a human's troubles."

Ken sighed lightly, then raised his right hand like a little adult.

Pop!

A cluster of angelic power, dazzling like a star, floated into his palm.

"This," Ken said, tossing the fist-sized orb of angelic power toward the Supreme Kai.

Supreme Kai: "…"

Are you feeding a dog?!

His face darkened, but he still reached out quickly to catch the energy.

Yet the moment his hands touched it, the angelic power slipped right through his fingers and dropped toward the ground.

The Supreme Kai's expression froze.

What kind of energy is this?

Why can't I hold it?

Awkward silence filled the air.

Kibito was baffled too.

Why couldn't Supreme Kai hold it?

Was he distracted?

Merus, sweating again, snapped his fingers.

Pop!

The falling angelic power suddenly flew back and returned to the Kai's hands.

"A-As expected of the Supreme Kai, controlling such energy so easily," Kibito said quickly, trying to smooth over the awkwardness.

But his words only made the Supreme Kai feel even more humiliated.
