Chapter 13 - An Esper's prejudice

Sung-min had no choice but to go along with my plan since he thought it might be good to know my address and see if I was creating a mad scientist lab or something.

But what he did not take into account was that going grocery shopping was more tiring than the name entailed.

I worked my man to the bones, haha.

It had been so long since I went out with Sung-min and felt this free. So I planned to savor the moment before he finally opened his eyes to how much of a slave I was making him to be.

We attracted a bit of attention cause... Who didn't know who Sung-min was? They kept their distance, cause Sung-min's cold energy was everywhere around him.

It was a wonder to them how I was so close to him, wearing thin clothes and not shivering. I even held his hand a few times.

This was a new experience for Sung-min as well.

At some point, while I was making him hold the grocery basket filled with vegetables, rice, meat, and even a few snacks that weren't on the list, Sung-min's jaw tightened.

He wasn't used to this, being treated like an errand boy, I suppose. But well buddy, there's a first time for everything.

That's the fun about learning new things.

"Why do I have to carry this?" he suddenly asked, like he was grumbling with that cold and deep voice of his.

"Because," I leaned closer, placing my hands on my hips and saying like it was a matter of fact, "... you've been using your muscles for decoration this whole time. Let me tell you," I patted his firm muscle. "These babies were made for heavy lifting."

His brow twitched but even when he looked displeased about that, he didn't drop the basket. It was my victory.

"Just stop complaining, okay? You sound more like a kid than a dangerous Esper." I chuckled and walked forward, spotting a rare ingredient I had yet to put into the basket. "Oh, let's go take a look at that." I pointed at it, but Seo-Jun's still expression made it seem like he would not do my bidding any longer.

But despite his stubborn demeanor and his unwillingness to go ahead and further, his feet betrayed him and moved according to my will and direction.

He was more of a robot, stuff, and obedient. But a glitching robot since he did try to resist my command a few times, haha.

We eventually got into the line to pay for our stuff and guess fell on Sung-min again.

He was tall, handsome, yet cold and giving off an energy no one could withstand. And I tell you, because of that, we made our way to the front of the lines in no time.

Since everyone stepped aside, not affording to let a famous Esper wait in line. And more so, hoping he hurried up and left with that cold and ominous energy around him.

Ah, here's something I figured out in my past life that I'm starting to perceive right now as well.

While it looks like the people are just scared of Sung-min because of the kind of energy he gives off and that he could go into a breakdown any time, as if it were that easy, some actually believed that Espers were seriously bad luck.

And that wherever they were, disaster struck.

They saw Espers as the harbinger of the monsters and did not want to be anywhere near them.

A few protests of some idiotic fools rose in the past as well, declaring that Espers were the reason the monsters weren't going away.

A load of bull crap, right?

I just don't know what cells those people's brains run on, but it's definitely not the kind that my brain runs on at all. They can't think properly. They can't see the big picture and only believe what they want to believe.

Like mindless puppets moving according to a fraud will.

My jaw tightened, and I clenched my teeth, thinking of how much trouble Sung-min went through because of them.

And because they were regular humans and not monsters, Sung-min and the rest of the Espers couldn't kill them.

Once they do, they'll break some form of balance that currently exists and they would've accused him of being a rogue Esper who was just looking for an opportunity to strike.

Everything was just so messed up.

This... This world is messed up.

"Excuse me, can I ring your order now?" The salesgirl asked. It looked like she had been trying to get my attention for a while but I was too caught up in my thoughts to hear.

As soon as I noticed, I snapped out of it, smiling awkwardly.

"Ah, so sorry about that," I said, scratching the back of my neck, and took the basket from Sung-min.

Why didn't he just do it in my place since he was the one holding the basket to begin with?

He was so lazy, tch.

While I was doing all this, Sung-min stared at me for a while. He felt nothing strange but he saw how I had gone into some sort of infuriated trance for a few minutes and wondered just what I was thinking about.

It didn't look normal to him but he couldn't even ask because I was a pro at evading his questions if I didn't want to answer.

I quickly paid and left with Sung-min carrying part of the groceries and me carrying the minimum bit while stuffing my face with chips from the bag of chips I bought

"Alright, I'll tell you where I live now," I said as we got into the car after dumping the groceries in the back seat.

By the time we arrived at my place, the sun was already lowering. It was quite far from the bustling parts of the city, and the closer we got to that area, the more we saw of the crack in the distance, barely being covered by the trees in front.

The setting sun made it glow like it was something pretty when it was hell itself.

Sung-min saw this but he held no vivid reaction on his face. I mean, none that I noticed.

I was looking at him the whole time, and he simply had his eyes on the road.

But something told me, he was once again suspicious.

Why in the world would I choose a place like this of all places?

Haha, that must be it.
