Chapter 22 - The Mountain’s Verdict

Days later, the valley settled into cautious peace. Fires were extinguished, wounded healed, and scouts patrolled with renewed confidence. News reached the southern plains and other neighboring clans: Kiranti was not just surviving it was leading.

Yalamber climbed the eastern watchtower, the wind carrying the scent of pine and wet earth. From his vantage point, he could see the banners of allied tribes, the repaired watchtowers, and the rivers threading the valley below. For the first time, the mountains felt truly united under his guidance.

Bhavik joined him, eyes scanning the horizon. "You have done more than win a battle. You have shown the clans the strength of unity."

Yalamber's gaze lingered on the distant ridges where Dorje still lingered in hiding. "The Chyarung remain a threat, but now they know we are no longer divided. The mountains themselves will not bend to those who seek to dominate."

Lhakar appeared behind him, smiling despite the dirt and exhaustion of recent battles. "We fought together. And we survived."

Yalamber placed a hand on the boy's shoulder. "Survival is not enough. We will thrive, and we will protect these lands. Today, the mountains have spoken. And they have chosen us to defend them."

The sun dipped behind distant peaks, casting the valley in golden light. Smoke no longer carried fear, but the faint scent of cooking fires and the warmth of unity. For the first time, Kiranti, its allies, and the mountains themselves seemed at peace.

Yet high above, in shadowed passes and distant ridges, enemy eyes watched. The storm had passed… for now.
