It stood about three meters tall, with a grotesque, ferocious form. Its entire body was made of an obsidian-like material, and the glowing runes across its surface not only granted it power, but also formed a powerful energy force field—one that could deflect and rebound almost every kind of energy attack.
"Foolish mortals! You dare disturb the slumber of an ancient descendant of Surtr!" the stone statue demon let out a hoarse roar. It merely swung an arm, and the shockwave alone shattered the surrounding glass display cases into powder.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents responsible for the museum's security tonight were already down and unable to move. And the one who arrived after the alarm, Thor now stood facing the demon, gripping Mjolnir in his hand.
"An exile from Jotunheim? Or the remnants of Muspelheim? Whoever you are, if you want to run wild here, you'll have to ask my hammer first!" Thor roared, swinging his warhammer and calling down a tremendous bolt of lightning!
KRAK!
A blinding flash, like a silver serpent, descended from the sky (punching straight through the museum's dome) and struck the stone statue demon head-on!
But then, something shocking happened.
The moment the lightning touched the rune force field around the demon's body, it was as if it had slammed into an invisible, perfectly smooth mirror—rebounding back along the same path at an even faster speed!
Thor never expected his own attack to be reflected. Caught completely off guard, he was struck squarely by the very lightning he had summoned!
"Gah!" Thor screamed, arcs of electricity crackling all over him as he was blasted backward. He crashed through a wall and fell to the ground in a sorry heap. His whole body felt numb, his arms had been shocked into losing sensation, and Mjolnir slipped from his grasp, landing not far away.
"Hahahaha! Pathetic god! Your power will only become my food!" the stone statue demon laughed triumphantly, the glow of its runes burning even brighter. It took heavy steps forward, closing in on Thor, who had temporarily lost the ability to move.
Just then, a voice sounded from the quiet corner of the gallery (aside from the demon's laughter and Thor's groans).
"Huh? Thor? What are you playing at here? Is the museum open at night too?"
Saitama wandered in from another exhibit hall. He seemed to be passing by on a nighttime walk, saw the museum lit up (actually the alarm lights, plus the glow spilling in through the hole in the roof), and came in out of curiosity. He looked at Thor lying on the floor, smoking, then at the glowing, walking rock-man, and a puzzled expression appeared on his face.
"Saitama! Watch out! That monster can reflect energy attacks!" Thor shouted urgently, forcing the words out through his numbness.
"Reflect energy?" Saitama tilted his head and looked at the stone statue demon.
The demon also noticed the newly arrived bald human. Sensing no special power from Saitama at all, it snorted in contempt and casually flicked out a red energy blast.
Saitama saw the blast coming and didn't take it head-on. He simply stepped lightly to the side, and the energy shot brushed past him, blowing a nearby marble statue to pieces.
"Oh. That is kinda special," Saitama commented, sounding a bit interested. This time he didn't just throw a punch straight at it like usual—instead, he began circling the stone statue demon, walking at an unhurried pace, like he was viewing a museum exhibit.
The stone statue demon was enraged by Saitama's "ignoring" attitude. It fired energy blasts repeatedly, but Saitama kept dodging them with steps that looked casual yet were perfectly precise.
The demon roared, strode forward in huge steps, and raised its petrified giant fist, smashing down toward Saitama!
