Chapter 10 - Cursed is the Ground

Season One finally ended.

The season finale was amazing. Instead of a typical training process, there were intrigues and disturbances as Merodoth taught, and finally, it culminated in a surprise attack led by the two neighboring countries!

It was here that Merodoth charged in battle.

Before this, he was a teacher of Spirit Energy. But he would then return a hero as his meditation was finally put to the test.

The hermit who stayed on his mountain was forced to fight!

The epic scene of Merodoth charging into the front lines and began to utilize the basic combat skills appeared. But as the enemies grew in number, it was there that Merodoth showcased the greater potential of Spirit Energy as his punch countered a large iceberg summoned by a mage and made it fall into the ground.

The iceberg met the fist of spiritual energy, and though Merodoth was in no level of strength to dispel it, the iceberg began to crack as the spirit energy vibrated from the ice, creating a sound of immense frequency and power!

CRACKLE!

The ice broke!

Merodoth turned to the camera.

"The possibilities are endless! Through Spirit, you can cross the ranks of power! But know this... this ability is rare in this continent! But a world is out there where even mages can wield such power!" Merodoth spoke before turning to charge against the knights and mages that was gathered to fight them!

[To be continued...]

The documentary that was filmed for a teacher teaching ended in a war documentary and showed an eyewitness perspective of the spectacles of the celebrated hero!

Thane's eyes were full of tears as the credits rolled. His cultivation of the Spirit energy continued to flow and only ended when the show also ended.

"That was... AWESOME!" Thane exclaimed.

His excitement even allowed him to watch and follow to the best of his capacity.

"Hey! That hurts!" Thane complained at the last line.

He then checked for his remaining time.

[Time Remaining: 1h:22m]

[Total available time watching TV: 20h:30m]

"Whoa! I was meditating and sleeping for thirty hours?!" A horrified look on Thane's face emerged.

"Wait. Why am I worried? I don't have deadlines or bible studies to lead. I guess I'm still not used to living this responsibility-free life." Thane settled his heart.

"Still, I do feel better... Hm?" Thane then saw something.

Out of the tunnels close by, a creature could be seen approaching. Thane's Supreme Perception kicked in, and he could tell that the beast was 22.3 meters away from him.

The darkness failed to hide it. The creature was slowly creeping towards him, and behind him, there were several other small creatures.

Due to the effects of the Celestial TV, the slow, sneaking movements were even slower than usual.

"Goblins! I should have watched a documentary about them! Wait... Maybe I still can."

Thane used his remote and quickly keyed in Goblin in the search bar.

[Under the Hill: Life and Peril Among Goblins]

Without hesitation, Thane played it.

The scene opened to shaky, handheld footage. Leaves filled the frame, and a whispering voice broke through the faint sound of dripping water.

"Alright… day three of my brilliant decision to track goblins in their natural habitat. Current status: I'm hungry, my legs are cramping, and I'm about one mosquito bite away from surrendering to the nearest dungeon." Thane kept his head turning from the screen towards the Goblin.

The camera tilted slightly, revealing the adventurer's wide eyes as he ducked lower behind the thicket.

"There! You see that? Goblins! Scholars believe that when Scholars believe that when magic, mana, and mortal blood mix in the soil, say, from a nice little battlefield, the ground itself gets tainted. Now, with all the terrible battles in history where mountains and volcanoes erupted, we know that a vast underworld exists below us. And the darkness gives the ground beneath, ideas. Bad ideas. After a few weeks of cooking with the right mana underground, pop! Out crawls a goblin!"

The goblin froze, sniffing the air. The adventurer ducked lower behind the thicket.

"Right, that's my cue to relocate before I become part of the goblin family tree! Oh, and despite popular belief, Goblins don't have a great sense of smell! So you can hide from them like I do! But if you are in a cave, and a goblin is close by, then don't try to hide in the dark. They can see you. Well, not to see, from our perspective. They do have sight, but in the darkness of the subterranean world, they see... through the pulse of the earth!" "Pulse of the earth?" "That's how they find adventurers! They listen to the steps! They don't really listen, but since they are of the earth, they can tell where footsteps are!" "YAAA!" A goblin rushed at the adventurer. "Oops! Looks like I was too noisy on the ground!" The adventurer got up as the goblin lunged at attack.

The camera jolted violently, the frame swinging between flashes of dirt, boots, and the snarling goblin. It was as if the adventurer had strapped a cellphone to his face and decided to film his last moments for content. The sound was a mix of ragged breathing, crunching underbrush, and the goblin's high-pitched screeches echoing behind him.

"Oh boy. This is quite a problem..." The adventurer's voice puffed through gritted teeth.

"Rule of survival: if you can't sneak away, you fight smart. Most monsters have a core! A condensed knot of mana that keeps them alive. In goblins, it's usually in the stomach. Big, nasty little gemstone buried in flesh. Now, hitting it with your fist won't do much. But... if you know a bit of Spirit! That's different!"

The camera whipped around mid-sentence, giving the audience a shaky, too-close shot of the goblin leaping over a fallen log. The image blurred as the adventurer spun back, still running.

"All you've gotta do..." The adventurer stopped suddenly, and the camera panned to what was behind it.

"Is watch for the bulge. And strike!"

The shaky footage caught it in one dizzying frame: a faint, unnatural ripple moving under the goblin's skin. Then, with a grunt, the adventurer threw a right straight.

POW!

The goblin screeched as it fell to the ground.

"Right there!"

The adventurer rejoiced as he ran.

"One well-placed strike, and those goblins are gonna be out for a few seconds! Now let's get out of here!" The adventurer laughed as the screeching goblins charged forward.

The show suddenly stopped.

[Monster detected close by.]

[TV Supply Storageallows remaining energy from the Ambrosia to be stored.]

[Store and end streaming?]

Thane was shocked.

"I... I forgot that there was a monster close by!" Thane cursed as he realized that he was in a perilous situation!
