Chapter 21 - Security concerns

"If you are telling the truth then you should have no reason to hide the origin of your new wealth." Dumbledore insisted.

"We all have secrets that we would like to keep to ourselves. I don't want to share that one and you likely have plenty of things you prefer remain unknown. You are free to test me in my truthfulness in anyway you like beyond veritaserum and messing with my mind or memories however." I said firmly.

"I could simply petition the aurors in the ministry to look into it as well." he said without losing his gentle smile.

"You are free to so long as my rights aren't infringed and my mind left unmolested." I said confidently.

"Very well. I will consult the goblins as you suggested before letting the matter end there. A word of advice however young Alex, secrets have a habit of eating one when unshared. If you ever change your mind you may find me." he said seriously before leaving.

This was not a topic I had any intention of sharing however as I very well understood how stupid that was. I had not read any fanfic where sharing ones nonnative origin or "cheat" was a smart move. It often ended with the protagonist dead or worse in fact. -

Right now the sudden wealth I had was highly suspect but until someone could find something wrong with it there was nothing to do about it. Clashing with Dumbledore here was also a tactical move on my part. A gamble of mine that I was hoping would work out. Oh I had no doubt the old goat would be keeping a watchful eye on me but I wasn't doing anything illegal(yet) so I had no worries.-

There was no chance he'd find the system either so long as I was cautious not to openly show it by taking stuff out of my inventory from nowhere. With observation haki he also probably couldn't secretly watch me as there was no such thing as perfect camouflage. There will always be a sound, smell or disturbance that would give away ones presence. With that thought in mind I added something else to my shopping list for tomorrow, a large fuzzy rug. If I was going to be watching for hidden people in my room I wasn't going to bother with magical means that would be expected and countered.-

It's amazing how easily people underestimate even the littlest things such as the floor under their feet or the ceiling above their heads. A fuzzy rug would be examined and then promptly ignored once it's mundane nature was revealed not realizing that the rugs purpose was to show me if anyone was standing on it. Even being invisible wouldn't stop one's feet prints from being visible due to the rug being an external thing. It was much like how Harry was found in the books because of his footprints in the snow despite his invisibility cloak.-

'I'll need to learn the smoke charm too just in case.' I thought seriously.

Without hesitation I took out my wand and got to work trying to pull off the spell, Fumos. It was a first year spell that created smoke and that was it. The reason I wanted to learn it this time was because it was also one of the best ways to flush out invisible entities. There was no way not to be revealed if you were the only spot smoke didn't fill in the air after all.-

It didn't take me long to get my first puffs of smoke either, about ten minutes really. From there I practiced until I could comfortably fill most of the room with a thin mist of smoke. Interestingly if I used my armament haki while casting the spell I could even control it to a degree allowing me to create a sheet of smoke the I could see the entirety of. I ended up skipping lunch as a result of my practice but finished up by dinner so there was no real issue. I went to bed after setting up an alarm by my door that consisted of a dozen coins perched precariously along it's top edge.-

When I awoke the next morning I cast a wide fumos spell to search the room from top to bottom and found my alarm untouched. Confident I was alone I sheathed my wand and put it away in my inventory before taking out a coin to practice controlling magic wandlessly by my will. As my haki rippled weakly over my right hand holding the coin my magic flowed to that area and I tried to direct it to move the coin, gently.-

My magic stirred at my urging and the coin wobbled slightly. Encouraged by this I tried making my command more intense. The coin stood up on it's side at that and slowly began to rise through the air. I quickly realized something annoying however when my thoughts slipped slightly, the magic stopped instantly. Clearly this would require absolute focus to train, at least at first. Once using it became second nature this problem would vanish but until then this was the way it was. My next step was testing my limits with the magic. Moving a coin? Easy. But what about me? Or perhaps my bed?-

From the coin I moved onto the next lightest thing I had in here with me, the ability stone for the one piece physique. Much like the coin I had no issues at all moving it with my magic. I then put it away and made the attempt with one of my textbooks. Once again no issues at all with that attempt. With a serious expression I finally moved on to my trunk full of textbooks and school supplies. This time I felt resistance though the magic still moved it but it felt shaky and unstable like when someone works out with slightly too much weight.-

'So my current magical limit is heavier than me but lighter than my bed. Now to see if magic is truly like a muscle that grows with more use.' I thought as I started to exercise.

Nothing too major just stretches, push ups, crunches and squats until my body started to shake. I may add jumping jacks to that for cardio once I get my rug to absorb the sound of me jumping but for today that was enough. Once I was done I stopped by the bathroom to get a quick rinse off with soap before eating breakfast and leaving the pub.
