"Somewhere about 2 years ago, our planet began to fracture. You couldn't see into the fractures, and if you fell in, it brought you to here, to Era-Terre. But until now, there were ways back. It was like a trial in which you had to complete a task, and you could return. We called them Vestiges. That is how the normal people of Earth became Seekers."
"So I fell into one of these fractures?"
"Kind of, this case is more unique."
Zero nodded in the dark crimson light.
"Eventually, the small fractures across the world grew and did not stop. Chaos Beasts began to come out of them, and the laws of our world were rewritten near them. They continued to consume up until now, I suppose. My guess is that the fractures consumed the entirety of Earth. Thus, we did not return after completing the Vestige by touching the statue."
Zero took in the information and tried to think it over in his head. It was not too complex of a story, but it was rather hard to imagine the scale. A whole world gone.
'How big is the world anyway?'
Sadly, Zero felt no connection to this world. If it was once his home, it currently held no value in his heart. Not that he was going to tell Alice that.
"So, where is this place then?"
"I don't know. Some people say it's a parallel world or a different dimension. There is no evidence to say that each Vestige brought people to the same world, even. And then there's the whole thing with remembrances. It seemed they referenced the future, so others called this world the past."
It was a lot to take in. But also just a little. Simply, Zero's world was probably destroyed along with his memory. That was it. It was grand, but rather simple.
"And about my amnesia?"
"Sorry, I don't have anything about that."
"I see, thank you for telling me about my world and how I got here."
"I should be thanking you. It felt nice to share it with someone from there. Even if they hold no connections to it. You remember nothing of Earth, right?"
"Correct, zero."
Alice laughed slightly at Zero using his own name.
"Tomorrow, Caelum and I will fill you in about this world, and how vie works and whatnot. I'll cover details about the nexus when both of you are awake too, since neither of you knows much about it."
"Ah, wait about Caelum, so he's not from Earth?"
Alice and Zero continued to converse well into the night. Alice clarified that Caelum was not from Earth and was a native of Era-Terre. She also talked about the many languages she knew, and about how her own Vestige or trial started.
When she finished, Zero felt prompted to share a bit about what his Vestige was then. Or at least what he thought was his Vestige.
He shared details about being placed into the Coliseum and what beasts he faced with Azarax. Zero omitted some details as well, such as how Azarax actually died, but for the most part, told it in great detail. Even referencing parts like his trusty shield a few times.
Alice seemed interested in the furry animal that brought Zero to the sanctuary and eventually named it as a wolf. Then she told crazy stories about how humans had bred animals like that beast into tiny handheld animals called dogs and puppies.
They talked about many other things from this world and the other, until Alice got a bit too sleepy. Zero passed over the Harvest Talisman and bid her goodnight.
Zero had time to think and fiddle with his glyphs, or now Nexus. He looked at descriptions, his map, and Vie bar.
Upon seeing the bar having been emptied quite a substantial amount, he dismissed Valiant Blade, then watched the bar slowly go back up. Keeping that light on used a surprising amount of Vie!
Zero was both satisfied and unsatisfied with his previous conversation. He had learned a lot about where he had come from and why he was placed into the coliseum, but he was yet to learn about how Vie worked and what other abilities his Nexus had.
So he remained in this confusing state through the storm. Then through the night.
With the storm having blown past, Zero was able to see the sun rise from the east. He crept to the edge of the cave and admired the view for a moment, then went back to wake Caelum.
After a brief conversation, Zero found a nice corner and slept for a bit more.
Zero woke to Caelum's voice. A slightly pleasant aroma of meat and wet foliage swirled around him.
"Good morning Zero. If you could, please wake Alice as well."
Off to Zero's side, Alice was slumped out.
'Sleepy head.'
Zero scooted over to Alice's side and tried using verbal words to wake her up. After that did not work, he tried shaking her lightly. When that did not work, he gave up and fetched Caelum.
Caelum's neutral demeanor faltered for a moment. Perhaps a look of dismay, like: "I did this arduous task last time, do your turn!"
Of course, Caelum did not say that, but rather gave Zero the job of cooking some of the snake meat.
Caelum returned some time later with Alice in tow, and the three stood around the dying fire and ate. Sadly, sitting on the grass was not an option due to how soaked it had become. At some point, Alice returned the Harvest Talisman.
"Let's begin then. Just once more… Caelum, you were born here on these floating iles?"
"That is correct. Is it time to learn about the scroll, or Nexus?"
"Yes, please open your Nexus."
