Two drakes were dead, and one was unconscious, while two humans were heavily wounded, and one was… just fine. Perhaps a little shaken, or rather very shaken in a literal sense, but standing on her two feet.
A quick glance at the situation was all she needed before deciding the next choice of action. Decision for action? Kill!
Alice ran over to where Caelum was and noted his eyes showed a startling amount of awareness after being slammed into a wall by a behemoth. She quickly pried Valiant Blade out of his hand and ran over to the unconscious drake.
She had really lucked out that the Cave Snake's venom had been injected into the drake, emptying most of the venom pouch. Though she didn't know if that would finish the job; maybe these beasts were like honey badgers and could sleep off venom in just a few moments.
So she decided to finish the job. It was reassuring to see the red gem in the blade continue to glow, because it meant that Zero was still alive. It was also helpful because it made the blade stronger… or maybe swifter. Alice was not sure, but it provided some sort of buff.
From her preliminary glance, she already noted where Zero attacked the neck of the beast and could infer that as its weak point. So she mustered her strength and struck down. The blade pierced the flesh surprisingly easily, but required much effort to twist.
She perceived a kill message from the Nexus and was pleasantly surprised to receive a Remembrance.
This was not her first official kill on record, but it was the first one done with her own hands. She did not even know how she got that first kill.
Dropping the blade, she moved on to important matters. Caelum was currently being pinned down by the corpse of the drake he had slain, and it seemed like he was unable to shrug it off, but otherwise, he did not seem to be fatally wounded.
On the other hand, Zero looked to be in terrible shape. Blood was coming out of his mouth, and his ribs had definitely caved in. His arms were bent grotesquely, and his leg looked crooked.
The amount of blood made part of Alice's mind go hazy. But somehow she was able to curb it to another part of her mind for now. It felt like she was thinking twice at the same time. One part was practical, and the other was panicking. Perhaps there was a third side too, feeling temporary relief or despair. Anyways, she obviously listened to the practical side.
Zero was now fully unconscious, and Valiant Blade had stopped glowing. But it showed no signs of disappearing or losing ownership, so Zero was definitely alive.
Alice gingerly wrapped her arms around his body and carried him over to Caelum. One of his hands was free, so she placed Zero under it. Immediately, Caelum began healing Zero.
"Start with his abdomen around the chest. His lung might be punctured. It's located on the upper side of his body, here."
Alice pointed to the vital spots she knew off the top of her head. She did not know if Caelum knew about such organs, being from a more primitive world, so she pointed visually.
Then she ran over to fetch Caelum's staff and a large rock?
Upon returning, she placed the rock near the drake crushing Caelum. Then, after some effort and mindfulness not to hit Caelum, she wedged the staff under the beast.
"I am going to use this lever to push the drake off of you. Continue what you are doing, but try to shimmie your way out."
In car crashes, Alice often heard to wait for paramedics to arrive if the passenger is crushed, but she had no reference to go off of as of now. So she was the paramedic. Judging from Caelum's approximate position, he probably would not get crushed more.
Alice pushed hard onto the staff, but it did not budge. So she jumped on it.
Caelum groaned as he quickly pushed himself out from under the beast. Wordlessly, he continued to treat Zero, stopping only momentarily to find his pulse.
Caelum himself was injured too, with his arm bent funny, but he paid it little mind. Almost as if he were immune to pain.
Alice glanced over at Zero and felt herself relax a bit. He seemed to be breathing normally now, and it seemed like Cealum was done healing at the abdomen.
Among the Seekers and very few Enlightened from Earth, Caelum would likely have been a top-ranked healer. Although, those kinds of healers often resided in hospitals, curing whatever diseases were not yet conquered by technology.
In fact, most Seekers would fight Chaos Beasts from the fractures with guns and other modern weapons. Although, they would have to be some distance away since modern technology did not work near fractures for whatever reason.
Caelum had put Zero back together, and besides the blood, he looked as good as new. Of course, he was not, and he would require some rest to get better. Even with mystical healing, it was not a fix all issue. The body needed some time to heal itself as well. But for now Zero was stable.
So it was time to move, before something came that they could not possibly hope to beat.
A fully fledged mother drake.
Well one might come, it was not possible for Alice to know. But since these were Nascent Drakes, they must have been quite young. When they grew older, they would likely look like the dragon Zero and Caelum described from the island before finding her.
It was that she was worried about.
Now Caelum was beginning to heal himself, arranging his arm properly. Alice brought some water from the Harvest Gnat and offered some to Caelum, which he took. She considered feeding some to Zero, but that might clog his airway.
After a long sip from the creature's limb, she quickly glanced through at her new remembrance. After she saw Caelum get up, she knew it was time to go.
"If you can walk, then it's time to leave. In case their mother or father returns. I'll carry Zero on my back. If you can, bring the Harvest Gnat, but don't push yourself. We'll probably find another one anyway.
