Alice broke the silence with a practical thought.
"What is our plan to survive the night? This is my first day here, wherever this is."
"Harvest Creatures sleep during the night, I believe. I do not know why so many have been turned by Chaos, but if it is just them on this island, we should be fine as long as we do not make light. What was it that broke your leg?"
Zero did not know they slept at night, but he felt a bit reassured hearing that.
"A weird tree broke my leg, if that is what you are talking about. I never killed it, so I do not know its name."
"How did you get away from it then, though?" Zero asked.
"I threw it into a deep cave. Then, I crawled on all threes all the way here. Then I saw your guy's fire and managed to make my own. Also, I do not know of any other Chaos beasts here, thankfully."
Not knowing what Chaos meant drove Zero a little crazy, but he was still hesitant to reveal his amnesia. Maybe if it were just to Caelum, it would be fine, but that chance passed.
The two of them had become the three of them.
"I think a Blessing of mine lets me see better in the dark. But not entirely so, just vague shapes. Still, I can keep watch tonight till sunrise. Then, just let me get an hour or two of sleep, and we can go. A Boon of mine allows my sleep to be more restful, I guess."
"What, you have a Blessing too? Did you guys happen to find a little cave? With two pedestals and a statue?"
"We did, I touched the middle one, and Zero touched the one with a heart. I think it would be best to discuss what strengths we have. If that is alright."
Caelum started and talked about his healing skill Falling Petal, remembrance Unbroken Stick, and his Blessing that strengthened his Spirit. Basically, everything he had mentioned last night.
Zero mentioned his blessing but omitted details about Abyssal blood and a Forsaken Diety. He mentioned his danger sense, slight night vision, Valiant Blade, and lastly his Harvest Talisman. Caelum jumped in and added that Zero was a great swordsman, prompting Zero to call his skill with the staff impressive.
Before Alice shared, she inquired a bit more about the Harvest Talisman, and Zero just read out its full abilities. There was nothing to hide after all.
"If you don't mind, could I use it for tonight. I'll give it back before you sleep, I guess. But I think it could help heal my leg a little faster."
"Uh, sure, but how exactly do I give it to you?"
"I'm starting to question, a bit, if you are really a human. Ah, sorry that was rude. You just need to manifest it, then let me transfer it to my Spirit storage."
Zero thought of manifesting his Harvest Talisman Boon, and felt something light and earthy appear in his hand. Not entirely sure what to do, he placed it in Alice's hand.
"Oh, we have to be holding it at the same time as well."
Zero awkwardly grabbed hold of Harvest Talisman again.
'Go to her, uh, Spirit storage. Go to her Spirit storage, go, go, go.'
{Harvest Talisman has been transferred}
"Thank you much!"
"You're welcome..."
"I already feel a difference! So, about my abilities. My blessing helps with knowledge retention, I think, and helps me think a bit faster too. It's of the Seeker rank like yours, too. My skill helps me understand components. Mostly of like machines, I am guessing, but I haven't tested it yet. I have a remembrance too, called Gowing Tree. It's just a little tree, but it can give fruit from time to time."
Alice summoned Growing Tree and picked the two remaining fruits from it.
"Here, they are quite sweet. Like apples."
Zero gladly took his, then handed the other to Caelum.
Zero convinced Alice and Caelum to sleep since only he could somewhat see in this dark. Additionally, his heightened instincts made him the obvious choice. He could literally feel approaching danger.
Zero felt a bit sleepy, but took his duty with pride. At some point, the darkness started really giving him the creeps, so he summoned Valiant Blade.
This act seemed to attract Alice's attention, but she soon laid back down and probably fell asleep.
Zero did not know what to think of the girl. They hadn't known each other for that long after all. But Zero felt a little isolated. Both Caelum and she seemed to have an idea of what was happening, but he was clueless.
Zero got somewhat lost in his thoughts while he scanned around, but was soon jolted to attention when his instincts flared up.
"Hey guys, wake up, wake up, danger is coming."
Zero shook Alice with his free hand and kicked at Caelum a few times.
Caelum woke up after the third kick and instantly manifested his staff. Alice however, was still quite asleep despite Zero's persistent shaking.
"Alice, wake up!"
She grumbled slightly but did not wake. So, Zero gave up. He could feel danger approaching, but it was too hard to tell where it was coming from. Something definitely knew where he was, and it was watching him.
"Zero, where is the danger?"
"Agh, I don't know yet, it's approaching though."
'Where would a beast attack, where? Ah! At the weakest link!'
Alice was still obliviously sleeping. She made the perfect target.
Zero whipped around and looked around where Alice was lying down. He scanned around and saw no figure in the trees. Something told him to look down, so he did.
Slithering through the grass was a thin figure. A snake-like creature of sorts.
"Hey over here! It's a long thing in the grass."
The snake did not slow as it approached Zero and continued head-on. In fact, Zero had a feeling he had become the new target.
"Sorry Zero, I cannot see it in the dark."
"That is fine, I will handle it then."
Zero did not feel much fear. His trusty blade was in his hand, and if this beast was poisonous, it mattered little to Zero.
In the darkness illuminated only by the stars and a crescent moon, a new light shone from the red gem inside of Valiant Blade.
