Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: The Trial Begins

Finally, the second trial of Shimura Danzo in the Hidden Leaf Court arrived.

Unlike before, the existence of the Hidden Leaf News Agency ensured that news of this event spread like wildfire.

This made the current uproar countless times more intense than the previous one.

This time, the role of judge was not filled by Sarutobi Hiruzen.

Instead, Uzumaki Mito took the position.

Uchiha Yato had previously hinted that Uzumaki Mito would preside over the trial.

This move was meant to ensure transparency and prevent any farcical misunderstandings (referring to the distrust of the Hidden Leaf's F4).

The trial and its procedures followed the same protocol as before.

This time, Uchiha Yato represented the Military Police Force in pressing charges.

He laid out all of Shimura Danzo's heinous deeds.

The details were as follows:

"The recent infant pit incident was a result of the selection and training processes conducted by the Root, led by Shimura Danzo."

"It has caused significant reputational damage to multiple orphanages in the Hidden Leaf."

"After thorough investigation by the Hidden Leaf Military Police Force, we can confirm that Shimura Danzo bears direct responsibility for this incident."

Uchiha Yato then proceeded to display the photographs from the investigation—images that could be shown to the public—to the villagers of the Hidden Leaf.

The expressions of the dead infants and the sight of severed limbs were horrifying, no matter how many times one saw them.

Some of these photos were being seen for the first time by Sarutobi Hiruzen and Uzumaki Mito.

Uchiha Yato had warned Uzumaki Mito beforehand.

He had told her that the images were extremely graphic and, given her advanced age, she might want to excuse herself.

However, due to the sheer depravity of the incident, Uzumaki Mito felt she couldn't turn a blind eye.

She said to Uchiha Yato, "This old woman may be getting on in years, but I'll shoulder what I can for you."

"If you truly respect me, try not to make me angry too often."

Of course, our Uchiha Yato was very considerate.

He immediately pulled out two bottles of Quick-Acting Heart-Saving Pills and handed them to Uzumaki Mito.Uzumaki Mito listened as Uchiha Yato explained the miraculous uses of the medicine, feeling utterly delighted.

She had heard about it from Tsunade before.

Tsunade had mentioned that this little brat Uchiha Yato had some incredibly effective medicine in his possession, but he refused to sell it.

Now, she had gotten two bottles for free. This scene was undoubtedly hard for some to accept.

...

Back to the present.

Uzumaki Mito took a brief glance. As a ninja of her age, what kind of storms hadn't she weathered?

Yet, the sight of these infants' tragic conditions still sent a chill down her spine.

There was no helping it—it was simply too horrific.

This instantly made the civilians wish they could pelt Shimura Danzo with rotten eggs and vegetable leaves.

The ninja from major clans probably fared a bit better, as their children could be safeguarded within their clans.

Take Uchiha Yato, for example—he was either fostered with the Senju or the Uchiha.

There was no way he would end up as an orphan on the streets.

Seeing that the intended effect had been achieved, Uchiha Yato piled more pressure onto Shimura Danzo.

Uchiha Yato continued, "Secondly, Shimura Danzo is also implicated in various illegal research projects."

"Based on intelligence provided by Orochimaru-sama of the Sannin, we have uncovered some of the adverse consequences resulting from unethical human experiments."

As he spoke, Konoha Military Police Force members once again presented evidence and documents for everyone to examine.

Most people skimmed over the complex scientific data, but Uzumaki Mito alone carefully reviewed it.

There was no choice—some of these experimental results might very well concern her granddaughter's safety.

After she finished reading the general contents, she roughly understood why Uchiha Yato had emphasized the danger and harm.

Comparing what she knew of Orochimaru's work with these findings, it was clear that some of the content here was downright appalling.

Fortunately, her age and vast experience allowed her to stomach it.

After all, she had a younger brother-in-law who was also quite adept at such research.

Shimura Danzo, however, looked absolutely livid—his face so dark it seemed like water could drip from it.

He had never expected Orochimaru to betray him so thoroughly.

Previously, to fund human experiments and Wood Release research, Root had allocated massive budgets to Orochimaru.

Now, after reaping all the benefits, Orochimaru had simply walked away without a second thought.

Not only that, but Uchiha Yato had also thoughtfully arranged for clan heads to relay the grievances of the civilian populace.

Well, with a ready-made "account-balancing saint" handed to him on a silver platter, it would be a waste not to exploit those old, unresolved debts.

Among these representatives were ninja clans of all sizes that Shimura Danzo had previously swindled.

Leading the charge were none other than Tsuru Sarutobi and Hokuto Hyuga.

These two hated Uchiha Yato, but they loathed Shimura Danzo even more.

This "knife" from the people had been meticulously arranged for Danzo, leaving him no room to argue.

Uchiha Yato then produced a mountain of financial records previously submitted by the clans.

The remaining three members of the Hidden Leaf's F4 twitched at the sight.

Even Uzumaki Mito, now seated in the judge's position, was at a loss for words.

If these amounts were to be reimbursed, they would likely total up to two billion ryo.It can only be said that none of the ninja clans were entirely clean, as they all had some undisclosed accounts to varying degrees.

What's even more ironic is that the Shimura clan reported a staggering five billion, citing the reason that Elder Shimura Danzo had caused their clan considerable trouble during his tenure.

They needed a massive amount of money to quell the anger of the other ninja clans, which was why there were such huge financial discrepancies.

Forget about how others felt—Uchiha Yato was currently laughing his head off.

He had originally just wanted a few clans to clean up their previous account records a bit.

But now? Their own people turned out to be the most ruthless.

Sarutobi Hiruzen, who had initially wanted to argue in defense, saw that the reported accounts from his own Sarutobi clan and the Shimura clan amounted to nearly 900 million ryo.

He knew then that there was no way he could protect Shimura Danzo this time.

Uchiha Yato decided to do them a favor at this point.

He continued, "We now suspect that Elder Shimura Danzo also suffers from persecution delusions."

"He tends to make baseless accusations and utter extreme statements."

"We urge all villagers to remain vigilant and not believe in rumors."

"If any rumors arise, the Military Police Force will investigate immediately. The Hidden Leaf Gazette will publish clarifications."

This move cut off another escape route for Shimura Danzo.

The implication was clear—no one would believe a word he said now.

He shouldn't even try to drag down the Hidden Leaf's higher-ups or Orochimaru, because the moment he did, the Military Police Force would come down on him.

This assist from Uchiha Yato earned unanimous praise from the Hokage's inner circle and the various ninja clans.

Even Hyuga Hinata couldn't help but silently praise him in her heart.

"This kid isn't so bad after all. At least he knows how to calm everyone down."

Once the lawsuit concluded, it was time for the final judgment.

Uzumaki Mito declared, "The evidence has shown that Shimura Danzo has indeed caused significant harm to the village's development."

"After deliberation, the court has decided to sentence Shimura Danzo to death."

"The execution will take place three days from now, before the Memorial Stone!"

And with that, Uchiha Yato harvested a massive amount of Emotion Coins from this Leaf Court session.

He really had to thank Shimura Danzo for his contributions—once again, Yato had managed to fleece him.

After the trial concluded, Uchiha Yato immediately cast an illusion on him.

Just to prevent any unnecessary incidents…
