One day, around noon, after a short nap, I was watching my father while my mother held me in her arms.
Apparently, Albert was doing some kind of training to deepen and get more out of his bond.
Now that I think about it, neither of them has mentioned what kind of creature they formed their bonds with. For now, I know you can form a connection with almost any creature, as long as it's alive — obviously — or at least I think so... Anyway, watching him now makes me wonder what kind of creature I'll bond with in the future. Maybe a gorilla? That'd give me insane strength. Or what about some kind of bird? I could move around without even using my legs.
Wait…! If that happens, does it mean I'll grow wings? I wouldn't really like that, to be honest, but if that's the price to fly, I'll gladly take it.
I kept thinking about the kind of bond I'd have in the coming times, and also about my parents', but I couldn't reach any conclusion. I tilted my head slightly, and it seems my mother, seeing this, assumed I was curious about my father's power, because shortly after, she began talking to me.
"Kael, are you curious about Daddy's training?" my mom asked. I just looked at her for a moment before babbling something, since I still can't talk. I just hope I can gain control over this body soon.
"Dad is a Category 2 Bearer. His bond, if I remember correctly, was with a fire bear."
"The day we encountered it was pretty terrifying for me, but for your silly father, it was 'fun'. What's so fun about finding a bear in the middle of a hike through the Lebensia forest!?"
"Well, apparently he thought it was fun, since he immediately got along with the animal. Many of our dates ended with us running into Berserker — the stupid name your father gave that bear."
Mom let out a deep sigh after that story; it seems like it wasn't as memorable for her as it was for Dad. Either way, a bear is awesome! They're incredibly strong, and natural-born leaders. What would I have done if I were in front of such a creature? Probably run away screaming like a little girl — not gonna lie. I was never good with animals, but I hope that won't be a problem for me in this life. I wonder if I'll also have a bond with a strong animal. I can't wait to…
Wait…
Did Mom say a fire bear? Why the hell would a bear have fire? Are you telling me animals can have elements or some kind of matter in them?
Then again… after everything I've seen, that's a stupid question.
If creatures can have elements, then that means there could be water hawks or maybe even lava fish. That'd be weird… but amazing to see.
Damn, this world never stops surprising me.

After training, we got home, and I was lying in my crib — a pretty well-built one, I must say, considering my dad made it. Despite everything Mom said, I kept thinking about the little information I got from that story. All it did was leave me with more questions than answers. What did Mom mean when she said Dad was a Bearer? Is that just a title for someone who's bonded with a bear? Or is it something more general? And what was that about Category 2? That reminds me of an old giant monster movie I watched in my past life…
Either way, I should start gathering more information about all this, though that'll be a challenge, considering I can't read.
Pathetic.
I told myself that in my head.
Why is it that I can understand what people say, but I can't read or understand anything that's written anywhere? Maybe I should start with a children's book — one of those with little pictures and stuff. Maybe that way I can slowly learn until my parents start helping me. But I also need to start talking… I don't think I'll get far if I can't do something that simple. Then again, it's kind of dumb to say that, considering I'm only six months old.
Stupid.
I told myself again in my mind.
