Sophia's eyes widened in shock. "What kind of scheme?" she asked.


Samantha hesitated. "I'm not sure I should be telling you this, but I think you have a right to know. Alexander's family is planning to launch a hostile takeover of a rival company. And they're using the arrangement between you and Alexander to distract the public and the media while they do it."


Alexander's face turned white. "That's not true," he said. "My family would never do something like that."


Samantha shook her head. "I'm afraid it's true, Alexander. I've seen the documents myself. And once the takeover is complete, they'll be unstoppable. They'll have too much power and influence."


Sophia felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She didn't know what to believe. Was Alexander involved in this scheme, or was he just a pawn in his family's game?


"Alexander, do you know anything about this?" Sophia asked, her voice shaking.


Alexander looked like he'd been hit by a ton of bricks. "I...I don't know," he stammered. "I had no idea my family was planning something like this."


Samantha nodded. "I believe you, Alexander. You're not like your family. But you need to be careful. If you don't go along with their plans, they'll stop at nothing to silence you."


Sophia's mind was racing. What did this mean for their relationship? And what would happen if Alexander's family found out that Samantha had spilled the beans?
