Chapter 19 - First Kill

SHAWN

I didn't hesitate even with the silver chains holding me back, as I dug my claws into the guard's neck beneath me.

Blood spurting out, staining my wolf's fur. It was a first, a milestone for us as we had not taken anyone's blood this way.

The tremor that coursed through my body, after years of suppressing this side of me was exhilarating. For a moment, I forgot about the silver burn and crushed the next guard.

There were five guards and Uriel together with Ethan had them sprawled on the floor, their guts dug out from the inside out.

We pranced around the bodies, growling with our teeth bared with blood and saliva dripping.

However, we could end up like these guards very soon, as we were quickly losing out on our strengths. Before long, every guard in the mansion would know of what had happened and they would step out, ready to fight.

"The keys." Ethan's voice echoed in my head as he searched around the bloodied guards.

At the same time, Uriel was already by Davina's side, morphing back while pulling her almost lifeless body into his naked self.

I squirmed, seeing the blood dripping from her mouth, but then, she opened her eyes, her fingers shakily held Uriel's face.

"I…" She smiled, coughing up blood. "I am glad you are alright."

My chest tightened as I snapped back, writhing within the guards' blood. Ethan had found the keys and he quickly snapped the chains off our bodies, and as he pulled on Uriel's chains, I got Davina in my arms.

I embraced her, wiping the blood off her mouth. The deep cut on her lips made my eyes go dim, itching to tear the souls of those guards to pieces if I could.

But then, my mind churned with something.

"How the hell did you get here? You shouldn't be here."

She turned away from me to wipe her face and then gripped the dirt floor to sit upright, "I saw something on Uriel's phone."

"What?" We frowned, turning to him but then Uriel looked away, his eyes darting into the darkness.

He quickly changed the topic, "We need to do something about those bodies. This is the least of our problems right now."

Ethan nodded, glancing at me to pull up Davina. But she held back, eyes darting to the bloody guards and her face turned pale, with a gag.

"What will happen to them now..." She shivered.

"They are dead." I sneered coldly.

"I know…" She snapped. "But isn't that bad? Killing someone isn't worth it—"

"They put their hands on you, Vina." Ethan cut in, his eyes dim with the darkness shrouding over him. His usual mischievous self was gone with the wind and if given an opportunity, he would do it over and over again.

"But…" She was still worried. "The Alpha…your wolves."

We all swallowed, feeling the gripping fear deep within us. From this moment, we didn't know what would happen to us. The Alpha was bound to discover our wolves and we would be at a disadvantage.

I glanced at Uriel and Ethan, silently deciding what we had to do to at least stall for time. And the next second, I pulled her up, stepping away.

They stayed back, their eyes prancing about, with caution. They would bury those bodies and clean up the blood as fast as they could.

No one else could know the truth of what had happened.

I finally got to Davina's bedroom, placing her on the bed gently while wiping my hands down her body to relieve her of all the stress.

However, she kept glancing outside the window, with fear in her eyes. The blood and sudden death had deeply traumatized her.

"Let me heal your wound, please…" I held her chin, turning her to look at me.

The side of her face was bruised with a deep cut on her lip. It had to hurt deeply but then she pulled away from me, her eyes welling up with disdain.

"No, thank you." She shook her head.

"Why?" I didn't let her go, staring into her eyes for answers. "Are you mad at us?"

"No, I am not…" She shook her head again, pulling my hand away from her chin. "You don't need to heal me."

"But—"

"Please, leave, Shawn." She cut me off, with a voice as hard as steel. For the first time, I cracked realizing what Uriel must have felt earlier when she had screamed at him.

Even while naked before her, she didn't react like the hungry and starved girl she was while she was all over us the other night at the river.

And in that moment, I felt like something was snapping in my brain and I wanted to pin her down and force her to speak to me.

I moved, my hands almost circling her neck but then I pulled away, clenching my fists as I stepped to the door.

"Sleep well," I said. "If you need anything, let me know."

As the door closed, I fumed, storming down the hallway. The cold haze in my eyes could freeze anyone over a thousand times and I couldn't direct that deep-seated chill at Davina.

I stormed out of the house, going straight to Ethan and Uriel.

They were halfway through taking the guards' bodies outside the mansion and it was almost midnight now. But then, my eyes were set on Uriel, blazing with fury.

"Uriel, you bastard!" I seethed, rushing at him and the minute he stood up straight, I slammed my fist on him.

Bang!

He flew, his body slamming the floor and rolling in the blood.

Ethan stood back, his lips parted in shock as his eyes darted from me to Uriel and back to me. This was the very first time a fight would break out between us three.

With all the hardship we had to endure, we had vowed to stand by each other's side but Uriel had crossed the line.

"What's going on here?" Ethan's brows creased, coming to stand before me to stop me from closing in on Uriel.

"We have to be on a low right now…" He jabbed my shoulders. "Don't alert the guards."

"Let him be…" Uriel's words were carried by the wind and the sheer defiance in them was too obvious to ignore.

He sat up, supporting his body with his hands on the floor soaked in blood. The side of his lips raised and for the first time, I felt a chill down my spine seeing Uriel's smile.

"What did you do, Uriel?" It finally clicked in Ethan's mind.
