Chapter 6 - Her Silence was the loudest thing

Chapter Six:Jace's POV

She didn't even look back when she left.

The door shut behind her like a gunshot—sharp, final, brutal. And I just stood there… chest heaving, lips tingling with the taste of her, heart doing things it hadn't done in years.

I had kissed Dani. And she had kissed me back.

But it wasn't enough. Not for her.Maybe not for me either.

I sank onto the velvet couch like my knees had given up on pretending. The room still smelled like her perfume—vanilla, spice, and a little bit of danger. God, I missed that smell.

I ran a hand through my hair, staring at the door she'd disappeared through.

"That kiss didn't mean anything," she'd said.

Liar.

Her fingers had clutched my shirt like she was afraid I'd disappear. Her lips had chased mine when I paused for air. And her eyes—when I finally opened mine—looked like they'd just seen a ghost.

She felt it.Same as I did.

But something in her had shut down. And I knew why.

It was me.

I broke her. Two years ago, I let my ego and my pride ruin the one real thing I ever had. And now, she was trying to survive the fallout by pretending she didn't still care.

But I knew Dani better than that. She wasn't heartless.

She was hurt.

My phone buzzed in my hand. I stared at the blank screen. No texts from her. Just silence. Heavy, deafening silence.

I typed one anyway.

Jace: I shouldn't have kissed you like that.Jace: …But I meant it.

I hovered over the send button.Paused.Then deleted it all.

She wasn't ready. And maybe I wasn't either. But one thing was clear:

I wasn't letting her go again.
