Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 : The Blood

Together, they carried her to Dr. Samuel's tent. Because her wound was so severe, she screamed and cried the whole way there. Once inside, everyone except the doctor stepped outside. Since he needed an extra pair of hands, Dr. Samuel called Daniel in. He asked him to hold her firmly so she would not move. Opening his medicine box wide, the doctor took out a surgical blade. Then, he shaved off the hair around the wounded area.

"Daniel, hold her head steady. Don't let it move," he instructed.

Daniel used both hands to grip her head tightly. The doctor poured medicinal spirit onto a cotton pad and began cleaning the wound. After disinfecting it thoroughly, he brought out a needle and thread from his kit to stitch the injury. It took nearly fifteen minutes to complete the sutures. Several times in between, she tried to push Daniel's hands away, unable to endure the searing pain. Hearing her cries from outside, the others began to grow frightened as well.

He quickly wrapped her entire head with a cloth. By then, she had already lost consciousness. After bandaging the wound on her head, the doctor took a pair of scissors and began cutting open her clothes. Since her whole body was drenched in blood, it was impossible to even see where the injuries were. With no hot water available, the doctor used plain water to clean her body. Each wound revealed felt as if something had been torn apart inside. Especially below her abdomen, the skin had been severely scraped off. Witnessing such injuries for the first time, Daniel began to sweat and gasp for breath. When her body was finally cleaned completely, they were all shocked because there wasn't a single spot on her body left without a wound. Something had tormented her to that extent. The smaller cuts were treated with medicine, while the deeper wounds were stitched.

There were also two or three burn wounds on her body.

The doctor wrapped them with wet cloths, pouring a little water onto them whenever the fabric began to dry.

Her legs, however, were in the worst condition.

Not a single toenail remained on her feet.

It took nearly an hour and a half to treat every wound on her body.

Afterwards, she was dressed in fresh clothes Juliet was the one who handed them over.

Outside, the others were waiting anxiously, eager to know what was happening inside.

Finally, the doctor stepped out of the tent.

"I have done everything I could to treat her.

But she is still unconscious.

Most likely, she has lost a great deal of blood.

Without a blood transfusion, I may only be able to keep her alive for a single day."

"I will give her my blood," Juliet stepped forward without hesitation.

"My blood group is O negative."

(O negative is one of the rarest blood types in the world.

People with this type are called universal donors, because their blood can be safely given to anyone.

That's because O group has no A or B antigens, so no one's immune system will reject it.

And since Rh factor is negative, it can be given to both Rh+ and Rh− groups.

Thus O− can be donated to all eight major blood groups: O−, O+, A−, A+, B−, B+, AB−, AB+.)

"Are you certain about this?" the doctor asked Juliet.

"Yes," Juliet replied firmly.

"I've donated blood before."

Immediately, the doctor took Juliet inside the tent. He placed a tube and a vial for collecting blood. The doctor inserted a needle into her arm. Then he attached an IV drip. One end of the drip was connected to the vial. Juliet's blood began to flow through the tube into the vial. Because blood was being drawn from her body, she soon felt a wave of exhaustion. It took about fifteen minutes to complete the collection.

After collecting the blood, Dr. John Samuel prepared to transfer it into Rose's body. For a short while, he stepped outside the tent to get some fresh air. Meanwhile, Juliet's blood was already entering Rose's body. The doctor also informed the others outside about this. They all felt an indescribable sense of relief.

"But still… what could have happened to that girl? Could it be that she was harmed by the wolf earlier?" Dr. John Samuel asked Daniel with suspicion.

"There's no way for it to come back. Because its heart was torn out by my own hands and cast away. We even spoke of it once. There is no way it can ever return," Daniel said firmly.

"Or what if this is another wolf?"

"If that's the case, then I'll tear out its heart with my own hands too," Daniel said, showing his hatred and anger.

"Unless she wakes up, none of us can say what happened to her. She must tell us herself," Robert said to everyone.

Time: 3:30 AM.

Without bothering about anything else, Francis and Joseph (a businessman) were busy with their own matters. Francis sat under a tree smoking a cigarette. Joseph was inside his tent. The rest were gathered around the doctor's tent until dawn. Some, exhausted, had fallen asleep sitting. Some couldn't even close their eyes for a moment.

Morning bloomed. Everyone else was waiting for Rose to open her eyes. Time kept passing. They had their breakfast, which was mostly fruits as usual. A few of them went hunting in the forest, like every other day.

They managed to catch two wild rabbits. By the time the sun had risen high overhead, When they arrived at the shore with the hunted rabbit, the first news they heard was that Rose had opened her eyes.To know what had happened, everyone gathered around the doctor's tent. But no matter how much the doctor asked, she refused to say what had happened the previous night.

Since her body was not in good condition, the doctor didn't trouble her further. After giving her medicine for the pain, he went back to the others.

"Yesterday's horrific incident frightened her so much that she doesn't even dare to remember what happened. That's why she isn't willing to tell us anything," the doctor explained to everyone.

"Let her recover first. Then we can ask what really happened to her. Right now, it isn't right to trouble her," Francis said, giving his opinion.

The others agreed with him. Robert then went back to his spot to clean the rabbit meat for that night's dinner.

To help him, Daniel and Peter (the parapsychologist) followed Robert. For Rose's care, another tent had already been set up right next to the doctor's, since his tent didn't have enough space. Rose's condition also didn't allow her to be moved back to her own tent. Everyone decided that once she recovered, the extra tent could be used to store food supplies. Building that tent made the hours pass quickly. The sun disappeared beyond the horizon. They lit a fire, roasted the rabbits caught that morning, and ate together. Without much conversation, everyone then returned to their tents.

Doctor John Samuel's tent.

Since Rose couldn't eat the rabbit meat in her current condition, the doctor had given her some fruits plucked from a tree. Even that she struggled to eat.

"Has the pain lessened at least a little?" the doctor asked her.

She only blinked in response. The doctor gave her a painkiller.

"I'll be in the tent right next to this one. Call me if you need anything."

Just as he was about to step outside, Rose called out from behind.

"Doctor… I'll tell you everything that happened last night. But not to you. Call Juliet… I'll tell her everything."

To be continued....
