Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16

So, with such self-convincing logic, Song Qingwan—who was in truth already a grandmother—had no psychological burden at all in letting Lu Li call her "Aunt."

But Lu Li was conflicted.

She didn't want to leave her father.

Dad's side was dangerous. There were many bad people who wanted to harm him. If she wasn't there to protect him, and something happened, she'd never forgive herself!

However, thanks to Aunt Song, she had been able to find her father in the first place, and Aunt Song was always kind to both her and her dad.

She couldn't repay kindness with revenge.

So, Little Lili frowned, thought for a long while, and finally decided—reluctantly—to stay with Song Qingwan.

But she didn't forget to give all her "good luck" to her father before he left.

"Dad, you must remember to come back early!"

The little girl stood at the door, staring at his retreating back. In her sweet, soft voice, she called out one last reminder.

Lu Junhan said casually, "I won't be back."

Her small mouth drooped instantly, mist gathering in her black eyes. "Woo~"

"Lied to you."

"…"

Bad Dad!

After that, under Song Qingwan's strict direction, the entire villa staff worked overtime to purchase every possible necessity for the new young lady.

Just the clothes, shoes, accessories, and the little girl's favorite dolls took several cars each, filling up two empty rooms until they were almost overflowing.

It was obvious how much Song Qingwan liked Lu Li.

Four or five days later, Lu Li's basic necessities were complete, and even her household registration had been formally placed under Lu Junhan's name.

Now, with legal confirmation, Lu Li was officially his daughter—truly the little miss of the Lu family.

Before, many had only half-believed the rumors, but this fact stunned them all.

That little Lolita was really Lu Junhan's daughter!

Even giving her the household registration—could that be fake?

In an instant, Haicheng's upper circles exploded.

News spread tenfold; within a day, nearly everyone knew of the little girl named Lu Li.

Many were already secretly investigating her biological mother, wondering what kind of woman could have captivated Lu Shao—who had always hated children—to the point of publicly acknowledging one.

It was simply a miracle.

Incredible.

But at this moment—

The little girl who had caused such an uproar in the outside world sat quietly on the stone steps at the villa entrance.

Her small mouth was pursed, big watery eyes fixed on the gate. She waited, not crying or fussing, her sensible little figure making her look all the more pitiful.

Song Qingwan had seen this scene several times and finally couldn't bear it anymore. She took out her phone and dialed Lu Junhan.

"What's up?"

His voice was as cold and flat as ever.

Song Qingwan glanced at Lu Li, sighing.

"Stinky boy! I know you've been busy locking horns with the old man lately, but no matter how busy you are, you still need to spend time with your daughter!"

Lu Junhan's brows drew together. "What's wrong with that little thing?"

The mention of "that little thing" brought to mind a delicate, pitiful little face—soft and small, looking as if the wind could blow her away.

Song Qingwan's tone turned sour. "What's wrong? She misses you! She's sitting at the door waiting for you to come back. I wanted to call you before, but she wouldn't let me—said you were busy and didn't want to disturb your work!"

Her jealousy deepened. "I don't know what good karma you built in your last life to get such a well-behaved daughter."

"…."

Lu Junhan paused. "I'll make time to be with her once I finish dealing with this."

"Don't 'once I finish' me—things never end! Today is Saturday, your rest day. Come back now, and take Lili to the hospital."

"Hospital?" His voice darkened. "What's wrong with her?"

"She's fine," Song Qingwan said quickly, "but I want her to have a full checkup. None of us know how she lived before—better to be sure."

She'd thought of having the Lu family's private medical team come over, but some tests could only be done at the hospital.

And if it turned out she'd missed any vaccines, they could take care of those too.

After a moment's thought, she added, "If there's time afterward, have her do a psychological assessment as well."

"…."

Song Qingwan had raised both Lu Junhan and Lu Anran; she knew exactly what mattered. "IQ tests and mental health—both important for her future schooling."

Lu Junhan frowned. "So troublesome."

She ignored his impatience. "I've already made the appointment. You can go straight to the tests. For the psychological exam, find someone trustworthy—it's her privacy."

"Fine," he said, "I'll take her when I have time. Right now I—"

He was about to reschedule, but then remembered the little girl's unblinking eyes when she'd once declared she'd cut someone's hand off. His frown deepened.

She really should see a psychiatrist.

A girl obsessed with fighting and killing—would she ever get married?

"…Forget it. I'll be back later."

Song Qingwan: "…"

Couldn't he say things in one breath? She almost swore at him.

She had given her father so much good luck; she just didn't know if it was enough.

Little Lili, hair tied into neat ponytails, sat small and alone on the stone steps, glancing at the gate from time to time.

The empty driveway dimmed her gaze.

Dad must still be very busy today…

But the next second, she seemed to hear a sound in the distance. She leapt to her feet, black eyes sparkling.

"Auntie, is that Dad's car?"

She could hardly believe it.

These days, he never came back this early. More often, she was asleep before he returned.

Song Qingwan ruffled her hair and smiled. "Of course. Who else could it be?"

As she spoke, the tall man stepped out of the car, handsome face as cold as ever.

The little girl's eyes widened—and the next instant, she dashed forward, throwing herself into his arms.

"Dad, you're back! Lili missed you so much!"

Originally, Lu Junhan had thought he was wasting work hours just to take this little thing to the hospital. On the way back, he'd even considered telling the driver to turn around.

But seeing her sparkling eyes and beaming face… somehow, it felt worth it.

He patted her head lightly, giving a faint "Mm."

It seemed Song Qingwan had planned to take her herself—today, the little girl was dressed up, hair in adorable ponytails, a bright ribbon on top, and a knee-length pink princess dress that made her white, tender face bloom like a peach blossom.

With long dark lashes and clear, black eyes, she was as pretty as a picture.

Just like a real little princess.
