Chapter 34 - This is the Taste of Home

"Alright."

Ye Qiu raised an eyebrow, then helplessly extended his tentacles. He gathered some branches from the roadside, which then transformed into a skeletal frame and covered with black fluid, quickly taking the shape of an umbrella, creating a patch of shade.

Honestly, it really wasn't as hot anymore.

"Haha...amazing!"

Xiao Wu couldn't help but hug Ye Qiu's arm, bouncing around again.

"Xiao San, do you want to come closer to me? It's cooler here."

Even though he didn't really want Tang San to come over, he still had to be polite. Besides, Ye Qiu believed Tang San didn't really like him from the bottom of his heart.

"No need, I'm used to being by the furnace, I'm not afraid of the heat."

Tang San shook his head, flatly refusing Ye Qiu's offer. They were being all lovey-dovey; what was he supposed to do, just butt in?

"Then let's just keep going this way!"

Ye Qiu stretched his arms, and the little rabbit was getting a little too close.

"Hehe."

The ruffian rabbit shamelessly leaned against Ye Qiu, hugging his arm and sticking close to him. She was trying to save as much effort as possible.

This felt completely different from when Ye Qiu was attached to her. Being this close, Ye Qiu's aura was hotter, more intense.

"Mm."

Tang San nodded blankly. Watching Xiao Wu's shameless behavior, he seemed to understand something. Thinking about how they had toured the campus together, he always felt a little uncomfortable, and his head grew heavier.

Time passed quickly.

As they got closer to Holy Soul Village, Xiao Wu started to feel listless again. She leaned towards Ye Qiu's ear and whispered, "Ye Qiu, Big Sis Xiao Wu is a little hungry~"

"I said, don't push your luck!"

Several black lines appeared on Ye Qiu's forehead, and the hand holding the black umbrella had stiffened.

"Why are you being so fierce? Big Sis Xiao Wu isn't asking for anything of yours to eat."

Xiao Wu, seeing Ye Qiu's somewhat impatient profile, didn't dare to be too presumptuous. If she went too far, she was afraid Ye Qiu would really get angry.

Muttering softly, she fell silent.

She obediently followed Ye Qiu, her pink rabbit lips pouting, seemingly sulking.

After a long while, Ye Qiu's voice finally came, "Pay for it yourself."

"Ah? Okay, okay."

Xiao Wu was stunned for a moment, a hint of joy in her heart, and her eyes brightened. She reached out her small hand and fumbled towards the pocket of Ye Qiu's trousers.

After only a couple of tries, her face turned a little red. Ye Qiu's eyes twitched slightly; it felt a bit ticklish. After a while, Xiao Wu finally pulled out a carrot-flavored lollipop. It was wrapped in a layer of edible wax, so she didn't have to worry about it melting in her bag.

Xiao Wu, her face flushed, smiled and popped the lollipop she'd pulled out into her mouth.

"Ye Qiu, do you want one too?"

"No, thanks."

Ye Qiu shook his head gently.

"Xiao San, how much further is it exactly?"

Xiao Wu raised her hand and gently wiped the sweat from Ye Qiu's brow, then turned to Tang San, asking, "We're almost there, right?" She pointed in the direction of some mountains that were appearing in the distance.

"Almost. See that mountain? Holy Soul Village is at the foot of it."

Looking at the village that was now close at hand, Tang San's emotions couldn't help but become excited, and he no longer felt uncomfortable with Xiao Wu and Ye Qiu's closeness.

He was eager to see his father. Ye Qiu glanced at Tang San and pursed his lips.

Tang San was just going to be disappointed. Ye Qiu knew that Tang Hao, the drunkard, had already left Holy Soul Village at this point. Ye Qiu would also occasionally enter a state of alert at Notting Academy, especially when Xiao Wu was around.

Soon, the three of them walked into Holy Soul Village.

Tang San's family's blacksmith shop was at the head of the village. He pointed at the dilapidated sign on the roof, excitedly saying to Xiao Wu, "Look, that's my home!"

At the same time, Tang San took three steps in one stride as he reached his front door.

Ye Qiu called out towards the inside.

"Dad! Xiao San is back!"

The gate was open, and Ye Qiu, carrying Xiao Wu, could see the mess inside. There were broken bottles and jars scattered everywhere, emitting a strange odor.

But Tang San could only feel a sense of familiarity from it all. Everything was the same; it was the same atmosphere!

This... was the taste of home!

A figure suddenly walked out from the open gate.

Tang San instinctively went to call out "Dad," but before he could, he stopped.

"Grandpa Jack?!"

"Oh! Xiao San, I didn't expect you back so soon? I was just about to go get you and your friend with Tang Hao." Old Grandpa Jack held a crumpled, smelly piece of paper, seemingly soaked in liquor.

"Grandpa Jack, what are you doing here? Where's my dad?" Tang San felt a sense of unease, and he became somewhat melancholy.

"Sigh... you should just see for yourself. Tang Hao is really irresponsible! He actually left you, a child, and just left." Grandpa Jack handed the paper to Tang San, his face full of sorrow.

"Grandpa Jack, long time no see."

People's joys and sorrows aren't always the same. While Tang San looked at the paper in his hand, feeling lost, helpless, and pitiful, Ye Qiu greeted Grandpa Jack with a smile.

"Haha, Xiao Qiu's back too." Grandpa Jack finally noticed Ye Qiu. Seeing Xiao Wu, who was like a little doll beside Ye Qiu, a hint of surprise appeared on his face. "Eh? Is this Xiao Qiu's girlfriend? What a cute little girl."

Ye Qiu didn't answer, just smiled lightly, waiting for Xiao Wu to object. But... what surprised Ye Qiu was that Xiao Wu didn't object at all.

When Ye Qiu turned his head back, he only saw the back of her head. Could it be that this rabbit doesn't know what 'girlfriend' means?! That shouldn't be it!

Out of Ye Qiu's sight, Xiao Wu's face was already flushed red. How could she not know what 'girlfriend' meant? She'd been a human for a while now.

"Haha..." Grandpa Jack watched this interesting scene and couldn't help but feel younger. Turning to comfort Tang San, he said, "Xiao San, don't be too sad. Maybe Tang Hao will come back in a while."

Tang San silently shook his head, carefully folded the paper in his hand, and put it in his pocket. He then said to Grandpa Jack, "Thank you, Grandpa Jack. The house is such a mess, I won't ask you to stay. I still have to tidy up."

Initially, Grandpa Jack, who was planning to invite Tang San to his home, was taken aback. He hadn't expected Tang San, at such a young age, to send him away. Sighing helplessly, he said, "Alright then. But if you need anything, feel free to come to me."

Grandpa Jack shook his head and turned to leave. He paused, then smiled kindly at Ye Qiu. "Xiao Qiu, would you like to bring your little girlfriend to Grandpa Jack's place for a visit?"

"Sure!"

Ye Qiu didn't refuse, but he also didn't ignore Tang San.

"Xiao San, carrying this rabbit is really tiring. I need to find a place to rest. You... take care."

Take care?!

Tang San's heart clenched, but he didn't say anything. He just went into the house and started tidying up the messy room.

Grandpa Jack looked at Ye Qiu and nodded.

Compared to the unsociable Tang San and his father, who were both somewhat reclusive, Ye Qiu was much more pleasing to the eye. It was easy to see why he'd brought a girlfriend back so quickly.

"Alright, let's go then. Tang San, you can come to Grandpa Jack's for lunch at noon."

Not getting a response didn't faze Grandpa Jack. He led Ye Qiu towards his house.

Xiao Wu, walking beside Ye Qiu, turned her head and looked at Tang San with a puzzled expression. She didn't understand. Tang San was clearly just a genius like herself. Why was Ye Qiu so wary of him?

I wish you all a pleasant life!
