Chapter 333 - [LOM] 333: So Many Things to Do

Alaric had no intention of turning the world into a giant cage. When crafting rules in the future, he'd ensure ample freedom, avoiding overly rigid constraints.

As everyone knows, humans are adept at finding loopholes... and at courting disaster. Even with rules in place, Beyonder incidents might decrease but would never vanish entirely. That meant official Beyonders would still be needed to handle them.

Sequence 8 abilities were generally sufficient for such events. Not everyone was Klein, stumbling into high-Sequence crises. Most Beyonder incidents fell within the range low-to-mid-Sequence Beyonders could manage.

"Also, the luck-granting experiment worked... probably because this world already has Beyonder abilities that boost luck. It only lasts briefly, but it's good enough as a reward."

"Other experiments were neither successes nor failures. Rules granting strength or health also last only a short time."

Alaric mentally summarized the "Rule Lore" abilities, then stretched lazily and sought out Sasrir, who was buried in paperwork.

While Alaric was testing his powers, Sasrir hadn't been idle. He'd taken on the task of settling the people from City of Silver and Moon City, handling related follow-ups, and gathering intelligence about the world to prepare for more critical work.

Medici, meanwhile, had long since reverted from his cat form. After grumbling at Alaric, he'd returned to the Numinous Episcopate's base.

Adam remained quietly in the background, like a wisp of air.

"Done experimenting?" Sasrir looked up from his files.

"Pretty much. I've got the basic data and I'll summarize it for you," Alaric said generously, smiling at Sasrir. "Then you can start thinking about what rules to set for the future order. I can't establish global rules yet, but we can try a pilot in a border city."

Alaric had no desire to wrestle with the headache of crafting future rules himself. Rules couldn't be too lax or too strict; striking the right balance was a pain. So, he decided to delegate the rule-making to Sasrir, reserving the right to review and tweak them as he pleased.

"I understand. Thank you, Lucifer," Sasrir said, his expression growing serious, recognizing the weight of the task.

"Good luck!" Alaric gave him a thumbs-up, then grabbed a sheet of paper from the desk, scribbling a simplified version of the "Rule Lore" abilities.

Handing it to Sasrir, he stretched again. "I won't keep you here. Handle things here. I've got other matters to deal with. If you need me, pray or contact me through Lil' Amon."

"Alright," Sasrir nodded, already half-absorbed in thoughts of rule-making.

As for what Alaric had to handle? The list was endless!

Short-term tasks included creating a biological laboratory and researching treatments for Eternal Blazing Sun. Longer-term goals involved balancing the pollution in Mr. Door's body, rescuing Tolzna, from the Mother Tree of Desire, and even further out, helping Azik find and retrieve his lost memories, and potentially accommodate an Uniqueness.

On top of that, Alaric needed to secure the three auxiliary materials for the "Disciple of Delight" potion.

"So much to do! Even with Sasrir, why am I still stuck with all this?" Alaric grumbled. He was supposed to be a hands-off boss, a lazy fish, yet somehow he'd piled all this on himself.

"Good thing most of these don't take much effort... at least the parts I handle personally," He consoled himself, politely knocking on the door of the building before him.

Knock, knock, knock...

No response came; the building remained silent.

Unfazed, Alaric produced a megaphone from nowhere. Without any visible action, it blared with renovation noises... drills, hammers, loud enough to jolt anyone awake.

"Who's that? Renovating this early? Let people sleep!" an annoyed voice shouted seconds later. The door swung open, revealing Roselle in bear-themed pajamas. His angry expression froze upon seeing Alaric, morphing into an awkward grin.

"Morning, boss!"

"Good morning, Roselle, though it's 3 p.m. Still, morning it is," Alaric said, smiling as he silenced and stowed the megaphone. "Surprised to see me?"

"Uh, yeah, quite the surprise…" Roselle scratched his head, chuckling nervously. "Boss, I didn't mean to slack off. Just overslept."

"I can tell," Alaric said, not truly upset. He teased, "But does a Sequence 0 need sleep?"

"Of course! Plus, life needs a bit of ritual. Skipping sleep feels weird," Roselle said confidently. At his level, sleep wasn't strictly necessary; he could go ages without it. But after years of torment by the Mother Goddess of Depravity's power, he'd nearly forgotten what being human felt like. Now, finally free, he craved those ordinary experiences again.

"You seem to be recovering well," Alaric said, scanning the room with a puzzled look. "Where are your kids? Weren't you enjoying family time?"

"Bernadette and Bornova went to see an opera," Roselle said, clearly on top of their schedules. He sighed. "I wanted to join, but they're watching Phantom of the Opera. You know, it's a bit awkward, so I stayed back."
