In the world of Genshin Impact, during the period of the Throne War!Before that, it was known as the so-called Eternal Continent era.
After realizing what kind of world and time period he had transmigrated into, Varunon became far more cautious in trying to survive. His main worry was that one day, he'd be captured by some unknown being and raised like a Pokémon—or worse, die in the aftermath of a fight between cosmic powerhouses.
However, what caught him off guard was that the things he feared most… never happened. As time passed, fewer and fewer beings could even match him in a one-on-one fight.
The order of Celestia continued to collapse. The great existence that represented the origin faded into the void. And suddenly, terrifying new creatures appeared—beings capable of destroying mountains, splitting cliffs, altering terrain, and even affecting the climate.
They were demons.
During this turbulent era, Varunon met his first old friend who stood at the level of a demon god—Ashaks.A very talkative demon. And one incredibly good at deceiving others.
Ashaks tricked him into working for more than ten years—fighting in the deep sea—and eventually...Well, whatever Ashaks was thinking at the end, it must've been madness. He stirred up a massive tide and attacked the land—Only to be utterly annihilated by a Morax.
What a miserable death.A piece here, a piece there... not a single large fragment of the once-mighty demon god remained.
Varunon knew the truth. As soon as the Morax descended from Celestia, they annihilated a demon god to announce their arrival. And the demon slain that day had been far stronger than Ashaks.
Faced with the overwhelming might of the youthful divine being, Varunon had no choice but to retreat—and scavenge what little remained of his friend...
He wept while collecting the "heroic fragments" of Ashaks. And to be honest... Ashaks's "remains" really did contain something precious.
After receiving the "gift" left behind by Ashaks, Varunon felt a powerful, foreign force eroding his form—changing him.He resisted the transformation. But in the process... he evolved.
He grew stronger.Purer.And with that evolution came a new name—Poseidon.
He had licked Ashaks' "box" with tears in his eyes—absorbing the shattered power left behind. This broken divine force fused with his own and mutated. And ultimately, the ocean itself took notice.
[Poseidon]
In the deep sea, he could now command forces more powerful than ever before. He became something like the incarnation of the sea itself—a divine entity. Those who couldn't defeat him before stood no chance now.
Grateful for the power he had gained, Varunon gathered the remaining fragments of Ashaks and fused them into a divine relic—The Sound of the Deep Sea—A sacred item that allowed his old friend to shine once again in his honor.
Thus began his rise.He became the boss of the seas, fighting across all regions.Guided by the Sound of the Deep Sea, he launched conquests throughout the oceanic realms.
Demons rose and fell during this chaotic time.Using the remains and divine authority of the fallen demon gods, Varunon constructed the Palace of Poseidon. He also founded his own divine realm—Lemuria.
Although he had become the most powerful creature in the eastern Sea,Varunon was not yet a full demon god.In truth, he was still the same elemental fish he had always been.[1]
Only within the ocean did he truly reign as Poseidon, God of the Sea.Upon stepping onto land—bereft of the ocean's blessing—he became just himself again:An ancient elemental fish with merely above-average combat power.
This was the unique evolution Varunon attained after choosing to reject the sky's divine gift.
From his memories, there were two known evolutionary paths for elemental creatures in this era:One was the path of the Ancient Dragon Kings, evolving through endless elemental accumulation. The other was the path of Sublimation, becoming a demon god through a divine gift from Celestia.
Ashaks had chosen the path of Sublimation—And though he once surpassed Varunon, he died early.Beaten into fragments by none other than Morax.
When it came time to choose between those two paths, Varunon hesitated. He didn't want to give up the power of a demon god—But neither did he want to be shackled to the [Origin].
So he made a compromise. He fused with Ashaks' remnants... and when the time came to ascend as a demon,He fragmented the power again—returning it to the ocean.
The ocean has memory. It remembered the kindness of Varunon. And so, it blessed him.
In that moment, Varunon became a half-sublimated demon god—Still an elemental creature, but one growing stronger over time.
Having gained the favor of the sea, and granted a name by it, Varunon was now regarded as a true and orthodox demon god.But he was confused.
Where was the Sea Demon that was fated to appear?
The answer: gone.
When Varunon inherited the title of "Demon of the Sea,"He altered the trajectory of fate. The original Sea Demon's destiny was erased.
And with Celestia's order now broken—And the goddess of fate long since dead—The future had become unpredictable.
"We've officially formed an alliance with Osial..."Varunon leaned back on his throne, strange colors flickering in his eyes."Our main goal now is to take full control of the eastern Sea..."
"There are quite a few demons left in this sea..."
"We'll start by negotiating with the strongest ones.If talks fail, we'll just go to war."
"After all, in this era, war solves most problems."
Thinking this, Varunon stood from his throne and prepared to head for the Pearl Palace.
The eastern Sea was vast—divided into three major regions:The east Sea, the west Sea, and the Infinite Sea.
The east Sea bordered the mainland and was dominated by three major powers:Osial's Whirlpool Reef, Varunon's Lemuria, and Orobashi's Pearl Palace.
Besides them, the east Sea also contained many no-man's lands—untouched by any of the three powers. These were havens for independent beings and the weak.
The west Sea was more chaotic. Its demons varied in strength. Some rivaled the three gods of east, while others were barely cannon fodder.
As for the Infinite Sea—It bordered the edge of the Teyvat continent.Few powerful beings existed there, but many elemental creatures possessed the strength of demons.
Varunon stepped out of the Sea God Palace and entered the deep sea corridor. This sacred corridor connected Lemuria to the Palace of Poseidon.
Before visiting the Pearl Palace, he planned to give his followers in Lemuria a few final instructions…
