"Then why?"
Sarah hesitated, then let out a quiet breath. "Because my brother… he's been sick. For months. At first, we thought it was nothing, but he's stopped healing. The doctors… they've lost hope." Her voice cracked slightly on the last words.
Athena pushed herself up, her tiredness forgotten. "What do you mean, stopped healing? What's the doctor's statement?"
Sarah's lips trembled into a bitter smile. "They say his wolf can't keep up anymore. His body's just… failing. No one knows why and if no one knows why, then…" She trailed off, pressing her face into her hands.
"Have you asked Dr Gary? He seemed quiet…"
Sarah interrupted her, "he too lost hope, Athena… I'm just going to accept that it's his fate."
Athena felt her heart squeeze. For the first time, Sarah didn't look like the diva with the bright smile and easy laughter. She looked like a sister who was losing someone she loved.
