Darkness… it swallowed her whole.
Athena felt as though every ounce of strength had been drained from her veins. Pain throbbed through her body, sharp and merciless and her head lolled to one side as her cheek scraped against the floor.
She wasn't walking… no, she was being dragged.
Her breath caught in shock when she realized the floor beneath her wasn't cold stone… It was the familiar wood of her bedroom. Her safe place. Her home. Yet it wasn't safe anymore.
She just came back from school but then something hit her head hard from behind… Now she knows why.
A man's heavy boots scraped against the floorboards as he pulled her limp body into the room. The stench of alcohol and sweat hung in the air, suffocating her.
Her mind screamed at her to fight but her body wouldn't listen.
The weight of him loomed closer and she felt the burn of calloused fingers gripping her wrists too tightly, pinning her down against her own bed.
