Blackwind Academy was split neatly into two halves. One side catered to the non-awakened. The other side catered to the awakened.
At the very heart of the academy was what students called the TOWER… well non-awakened students called it that, for the grimoirers it was simply their administration building.
At the top of the tower, lay the Principal's office. Mr Blake. He was rumored to be a Leader level tamer, but an all so mighty leader level tamer was acting all respectful towards a lady young enough to be his daughter at this moment.
"Miss… Mrs Ola, this are all the information and combat statistics of the awakened students in our school." He said handing over a tablet to the lady before him, if Adeon saw the Lady, he would be shocked. It was none other the Mrs Ola who taught world history, only she looked noticeably younger.
"Hmmm." A soft, almost inaudible note of surprise slipped past her lips. "The last student on the list…" The principal, perhaps sensing at last a chance to curry favor with her, straightened his posture and said,
"That is Adeon Taloba. He was formerly in your class, but awakened recently, some stroke of luck, I suppose. He took the combat assessment today and…"
"That's enough," she interrupted softly.
Mr. Blake froze mid-sentence, the words dying in his throat. A faint flush crept up his neck as he turned his face away, trying to mask his embarrassment and growing anger, he couldn't afford to offend her. Not to mention her personal strength, a single word from her would set all the major powers in the 5th base scrambling, all trying to align themselves with her.
His post as the principal of the 5th highschool might look like a position of power, but that wasn't the truth, compared to those influential figures, even those in the private sector, he still fell short.
Mrs Ola didn't even look at him. She tapped on the screen of the tablet and the recording of Valeryss battle was replayed.
'Hmmm … He only just awakened his grimoire a day ago, yet this level of battle dominance… this can only occur where there is a huge level disparity between both sides. As far as I know he doesn't have the means of procuring a soul nourishing pill. He doesn't even have the financial capacity to get an elite quality beast...' her expression sharpened slightly at this thought ' this has to be a guardian beast'
One had to know, even in her family, anyone who could awaken a guardian beast, was given priority when it came to resource allocation and training.
Easing her facial expression, she handed the tablet back to Mr Blake. "Contact the classrooms we'll be taking over the next class."
With this she stood up, the air around her shimmered faintly, and in an instant, she was gone.
"A space type beast…" Mr Blake exhaled, envy evident in his voice "Surely it must be good to be born into a powerful family"
Meanwhile in the classroom,
" As we all know, there are four levels that the government decided to make public knowledge, each of these levels are accompanied by changes in the grimoire. The first is the initiate level, at which your grimoire appears as a leather-bound book, next we have the adept level, at this level your grimoire appears to be cast from bronze, then we have the leader level, at this point the grimoire turns silver, finally we have the overlord level, where the grimoire turns golden. Anything further up is considered classified knowledge, but don't worry as long as you can get into university you'll learn more about them." The tutor, turned his back towards the class, "And that's all for today."
No sooner had he spoken, when a chiming sound was heard, and from the speakers the principal's voice was heard.
"All students are to heard over to the open field"
the announcement rang out.
The classroom erupted with chatter almost immediately.
" Is something wrong?"
"Maybe it's a surprise test!"
"No way, they wouldn't drag us outside for that."
Adeon blinked at the noise, then leaned toward Kara. "Uh… is this a normal thing?"
Kara snorted softly. "If it was, I'd have skipped class today."
Everyone tidied up, shuffling out in a loose line, beasts trotting behind them, some shouting for their playful beast to stop running, and others keeping their beasts from destroying school property. The noise carried with them as they made their way toward the open field.
Once gathered, the students spread out across the grass, the chatter slowly fading as the minutes stretched on.
"What's taking so long?" someone muttered.
"Maybe they forgot about us," another quipped, earning a few laughs.
But then, the low rumble of engines rolled across the field. Heads turned as a convoy of armored military trucks emerged from the gates, gleaming under the sunlight, their presence instantly silencing the crowd.
One by one, the trucks pulled in and came to a stop, dust curling up from beneath their wheels as the engines idled loudly.
One vehicle stood out from the rest, noticeably larger, its back weighed down by boxes of varying sizes, each one concealed beneath heavy dark canvas.
The sound of boots striking metal echoed as they dismounted in order. Their uniforms were unmistakable, at least to Adeon. The sight was burned into his memory. The same uniforms his parents had worn the night they left… and never came back.
Crimson shirts tucked into matching trousers, black caps pulled low, and flowing black capes that snapped lightly in the breeze.
" Imperial guards" one student murmured, and like a fuse whispers filled the air.
" they're so cool "
" What are they doing here"
" I want to join the imperial guards "
The soldiers said nothing, merely summoning their beasts…massive gorillas, their dark fur black as ink and every inch of their hulking frames corded with muscle. The ground trembled faintly beneath their weight as they landed, heavy fists pressing into the earth.
One by one, the massive apes hauled the boxes down from the trucks, their handlers ensuring the heavy dark canvas didn't slip. The clatter of iron against iron echoed across the field as the beasts set the boxes on the ground.
After nearly five minutes of steady work, the task was complete. Without needing a single command, the gorillas straightened and moved back, falling into perfect formation behind their tamers.
At that moment, a man stepped out from behind the formation of soldiers. He was massive, easily two meters tall, his frame corded with muscle that strained against the fabric of his uniform. A jagged scar carved a harsh line from his left eye, cutting across the bridge of his nose before ending at the corner of his lips, giving his face a permanent air of a villain.
Looming just behind him stood his beast…an even greater terror. The gorilla dwarfed the others, towering at twice their size. Unlike its ink-black kin, its fur shimmered with a striking silver sheen, like tempered steel. The sheer weight of its presence pressed down on the field, daring anyone to so much as breathe too loudly.
" I am captain Sanders, and from now on I'll be in charge of fifth highschool live combat class."
" Huh... What?"
