Chapter 28 – The Playboy Wins MVP, and the Bootlicker Meets His Doom
As the two were talking, the door to Ma Xiaotao's room at Sea God's Lake swung open. Without regard for the current atmosphere, Qian Duoduo strode in with a serious expression and reported.
"Pavilion Master, Old Yan — the Shrek Investigation Team has just received news from the Sun Moon Empire. There's an eleven-year-old child who, in just two months, has become a Level 2 Soul Engineer, breaking the empire's fastest promotion record."
His expression darkened as he continued:
"They say… that child was originally a citizen of the Star Luo Empire, but for unknown reasons became a subject of the Sun Moon Empire. The matter is still under investigation, but there are a few leads — it'll take time to find out more."
"What?!"
One blow after another for Shrek. Pavilion Master Mu En, the Sea God Pavilion's spiritual pillar, had little life left. The academy's successors were lacking, its influence waning. In contrast, the Sun Moon Empire kept producing prodigies, their soul guidance technology advancing by leaps and bounds, their military power growing so fast it was on the verge of surpassing the three original Douluo nations entirely.
As the continent's most righteous, neutral, and selfless force, Shrek could not simply sit by and watch the ambitious, unification-seeking 'evil' Sun Moon Empire grow ever stronger.
Compared to Yan Shaozhe, whose disdain for soul guidance devices made him dismiss the matter entirely, Mu En's face turned grim. He understood all too well what this meant.
Finally, he sighed heavily.
"Sigh… troubled times indeed."
With that, he straightened his hunched body with effort and walked out, ignoring the two still glaring at each other in the room.
---
"Iron Turtle, why are you making such a fuss? So the other side has a soul guidance device prodigy—big deal. Let them play with their little gadgets. What's the threat?"
Qian Duoduo's eyes widened as if he'd just heard the most absurd thing in the world.
"Do you even know what this record means, you Playboy Phoenix? Did chasing women in your youth make you stupid?"
That hit Yan Shaozhe's sore spot instantly.
"What did you just say? If you hadn't stuck your nose in back then, how could Lin'er have broken up with me? Sure, I'm a playboy—my love's divided into many parts. But the part I gave to Lin'er was always the biggest."
Qian Duoduo ignored the fact that the conversation had derailed and reflexively mocked him.
"Ohhh, so you admit you spread your love around. Why don't you dare say that in front of Cai Meier? See if she doesn't beat you to death."
Hearing the name of his current wife, Yan Shaozhe calmed down—but his words still dripped with mockery.
"Iron Turtle, so what if Lin'er and I aren't together now? She still has me in her heart. Don't think I don't know—you two have only ever been husband and wife in name. Lin'er will never love you."
Oh, merciful Sea God above… that hit Qian Duoduo right in the heart.
All these years, no matter how hard he groveled to Xian Lin'er, she kept their relationship strictly nominal. To this day, he is still a virgin. The bitterness in his heart—who could understand?
Face completely lost, Qian Duoduo could only snort coldly and leave.
Yan Shaozhe knew his words had been harsh—but so what? Apologize? Impossible. He'd only spoken the truth. After all, it wasn't his fault Qian Duoduo couldn't win her over.
And so, this round ended with the Playboy taking MVP… while the Bootlicker met his doom.
---
Enough of Shrek's petty drama.
Now, we turn to the stage where Douluo's 'Child of Destiny' is about to shine once again—Huo Yuhao, about to step into the Extreme North and gain a 400,000-year wisdom soul ring through the sacrifice of the seventh-ranked among the Top Ten Fierce Soul Beasts!
The Extreme North bordered much of the Heavenly Soul Empire to the south, with only a small section near Dongyang City touching the Sun Moon Empire.
On maps, it was marked as a forbidden zone. No cartography could help here—the endless white wasteland defied human survival. The deadly cold kept people away, but also gave rise to countless ice-attribute soul beasts—powerful, savage, and terrifying to any human soul master.
---
"Yuhao, that Starlight Ring of yours—its concealment function is incredible. Combined with the spiritual interference field I gave you, we easily shook off that soul engineer who was tailing us."
Having entered the Extreme North and nearly reached the core zone, both Huo Yuhao and the Tianmeng were excited.
"Don't get cocky, Tianmeng. We're on a tight schedule—only a month. Let's head straight for the core."
The soul engineer in the dark had been secretly assigned by his teacher, Kong Deming, for protection—a Level 8 Soul Engineer expert. Yet he'd been neatly outplayed by the very soul guidance device Yuhao had been given.
Thanks to the external bone granted by Tianmeng, Yuhao felt at home in this frigid realm, as if a fish had entered the sea. The cold didn't touch him—but danger lurked everywhere.
"You're right, Yuhao. Once we reach the core, just watch me work. I'll persuade the Ice Empress to join my 'Godmaking Plan' and attain eternal life with me!"
Suddenly, Tianmeng froze.
"Hide, now!"
Yuhao dove straight into the snow, activating the Starlight Ring's concealment. His spiritual detection sharing simulated the snowy terrain perfectly, blending him in as if he'd vanished.
Thump… thump…
The ground trembled. The sound of heavy breathing, like that of a giant beast, filled the air.
Yuhao dared to peek with one eye.
A colossal giant, hundreds of meters tall, with a humanoid frame covered in silver-white fur, tusks jutting out, and radiating overwhelming pressure, strode past above him.
Only after Tianmeng confirmed it was gone did Yuhao emerge from the snow.
"Tianmeng, was that… the Ice Demon Titan King? It was like a moving glacier! We almost died!"
"Exactly. One of the Extreme North's Three Kings, with over two hundred thousand years of cultivation—and mental power to match. If my spiritual strength weren't far greater, it would have spotted us."
Yuhao hesitated.
"Then we delay our plan by a day. Let's make sure it's truly gone before moving on."
Tianmeng agreed, and they camped in place.
The next day, the man and the worm ventured deeper into the Extreme North. The cold was reaching its absolute limit. Finding the Ice Jade Scorpion's territory would be difficult—unless you had no intention of searching slowly at all.
"Yuhao, hide again. Time for me to make my entrance."
Yuhao didn't argue.
"Got it, Tianmeng. If negotiations fail, we're both dead anyway."
"Then here I go—coming out of your body now~"
