Ninzu turned to Serenya and Thessa who was cradling a small green vial. Serenya carefully poured the liquid onto the forest floor, and it hissed softly, releasing a faint green glow.
"This is a portal," Serenya explained. "It's stable, but only strong enough to transport three at a time. No more. It will take them to Lara."
Marla stepped forward, holding Thornak, still curled up as a cat, carefully in her arms. Nerida hovered at her side.
"Stay alert before you step through," Ninzu said.
Marla nodded, her jaw tight. "We're ready. Let's take the king home."
"Step through carefully," Serenya warned. "Once you're in, and you're safe, change the king back. And no mistakes."
Marla adjusted Thornak in her arms. Nerida flicked her gaze toward the portal, a small smirk playing on her lips.
"After you, little witch," she said lightly.
Marla took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing."
