Without thinking, he reached out, brushing her hair aside to check her neck.
His hand froze.
The mark , his mark, was gone.
The realization struck hard. Her lost memories had interfered with the mate bond.
Lara shifted slightly under his touch.
Without his mark, she couldn't awaken her wolf, not after stepping into the demon realm.
He withdrew his hand slowly, his gaze darkening. He needed to speak with Ninzu. Immediately.
"You should rest," he said. "Let me take you inside."
Back in the main temple...
Ninzu's gaze sharpened. "Gone?"
"She doesn't remember me. The mate bond has vanished, and with it, her wolf."
For a long moment, the priestess said nothing. The demon realm can be a tricky place.
"When memory is torn from a bonded soul," she said, "the Moon's blessing fades with it. The mate bond is not destroyed. It was taken along with her memories."
"Then how do I wake it? Do I have to mark her once more?"
