Thornak stepped behind her and helped her get into a fighting position. "First, redirecting a hit. When someone strikes from above, don't just block it. Push it away. Use their own power against them."
He showed her slowly, lifting her arm and turning her wrist. "Like this. Now try it."
She tried the move, focusing hard. At first, she was clumsy, pushing too hard instead of moving smoothly. Thornak gently moved her elbow into place.
"Use their energy," he whispered. "Not your own."
By the third try, she had nailed it.
"You learn so fast," he said with a nod. "Now, the second move: defending against a low attack. If they go for your legs, step back, turn your hips, and swing your arm across."
Lara bit her lip and tried to copy him, but she almost lost her balance on the first try. By the fourth try she executed the pivot perfectly, twisting and coming up flawless.
Thornak's smile was slow and full of pride.
"Well done," he said. "You learn very fast."
