"I gave it to her," Thornak said evenly, his eyes briefly meeting hers.
"You gave her the Lunar Crest… as what?" Selene asked in disbelief.
"I didn't realize I had to explain my decisions to you," Thornak replied.
Selene's gaze lingered on Lara a moment longer, before she muttered, "I think I have an upset stomach," and rose abruptly, leaving the table.
A guard leaned toward Kael and murmured something.
Kael's eyes narrowed as he absorbed the message. He nodded, then leaned toward Thornak. "We need to go now."
Without another word, the two rose from the table and slipped out together,
"If you'll excuse me, I'll retire for the night," Lara said softly.
Iris caught her arm gently. "Come with me," she murmured, guiding Lara away from the dining hall.
Once inside Lara's chambers, she lingered near the door, fingers tracing the silver pendant nervously. Finally, she dared to ask.
"Iris what… what exactly is this?"
