Ficool

Chapter 7 - Chapter Seven

Ever since I came here, I have experienced a lot of surprising things, the monsters, the surprisingly equipped settlement, the old grumpy man who surprisingly has a lot of knowledge on combat...

But I honestly did not expect Daniel to pull out a fucking rocket-propelled grenade from his ass.

"You had that this whole time?!"

I shouted, taking a step back from a claw swipe, it missed me by a few inches, and I stepped back in, my sword slicing through the neck of a beowolf while I moved past it.

"Yeah, I did! Why?"

He asked while he reloaded the damn thing, like he did not just take down a giant ass bird that could shoot its feathers as projectiles.

"Because that little titbit would be useful for me to know?!"

He shrugged in response, and I groaned, rolling forward to phaze through the attack of the Ursa, the giant bear I had fought a few times before.

It wouldn't be noticed in the chaos as of now, and apparently, this wasn't as chaotic for the settlement as it was for me, all capable personnel were outside, even those I didn't know knew how to fight.

And the old man was nowhere to be seen as of now, so at least I knew he was safe inside the settlement, hopefully.

This attack was, as I was told, routine, every once in a while, Grimm would attack in one wave, most of them gathered under an alpha, others followed the negative emotions they could apparently sense.

Which also explained why so many of them found me when I first arrived here.

I took a step back to disengage the Ursa as a bullet made its head jerk to the side, getting it to stagger. I took this moment to catch my breath for a second before moving back in, before it turned to me again, my sword coming down and sliding into its masked head.

"Where the hell is the Alpha?"

I glanced to the side, seeing a middle-aged man pull a spear out of a beowolf he had just taken down. I grunted, pulling my own sword out of the mask of the Ursa.

"It's bound to show itself eventually..."

I sighed, my shoulders slumping in exhaustion. This back-in, back-out combat with no break in between was wearing me down faster than I could recover, and I could recover fast.

"Get back and rest if you're tired, kid, we got this."

I huffed, my lips curling up slightly in response. I needed a breather, not an hour-long nap, but still.

"I'm okay, really..."

Straightening up, I looked around. Everyone was finishing up, The Grimm seemed not to know the meaning of retreat, as they kept coming even when they were slowly but surely dwindling in numbers.

Everything would be over soon.

As soon as I started to relax a little, a health bar appeared in front of me. I stared at it for a split second, not even having enough time to read over the name as a loud roar threatened to damage my eardrums.

I turned, seeing a Giant Ursa, its paws shaking the ground with each step it took as it charged at Daniel, identifying the one with an RPG as the biggest threat out of all of us.

My hand tensed as I brought my sword up and flicked it down, the hilt leaving my grip as it sailed through the air, the blade sinking into the elbow joint of the giant ursa, knocking its paw off course enough to just barely miss Daniel, who barely had the time to turn around.

My legs tensed, muscles enhanced more than anything that may be considered normal, coiled like springs as I shot forward, my fist coming in contact with the Ursa's head, the Mask on its face cracked as it was thrown to the side, my sword still in its elbow.

I breathed out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Holy shit, Man..."

I heard from behind me. It was a good sign that Daniel could still talk after almost dying, or that's what I hoped, he could have a mental breakdown later. I needed that RPG of his.

"Load that thing and don't fucking miss."

I grunted, straightening up as the Ursa gathered itself, turning to the offender, that was me, and roaring a challenge.

A challenge it might have been, but responded to with honor it was not, as the sound of gunshots from the firing squad from the walls echoed through the area.

The Ursa turned to the side, baring its heavily covered back to shield itself from the hail of bullets. They would have to reload eventually, everybody knew that, so nobody wasted time moving in.

As soon as the bullets stopped impacting its bone-covered back, they were replaced by blades.

Spears sank into the bone covering on its back, swords slashed at its legs, but instead of falling over and biting the dust, the giant Ursa roared in defiance.

Rearing its paw back to swipe at the people. However, I was already there, my hand wrapping around the hilt of my sword and yanking hard.

My strength, along with the damage done to its hind legs, was enough to destabilize it and bring it to its back. The spears that were stuck in its back broke as it fell, but the metal tips sank in further, some jutting out from its chest.

I pulled my sword from its elbow, raising it over my head and bringing it down on its neck, only for it to bite into the metal, bending my sword.

Shit.

I knew I should have brought my Greatsword for this.

Before it could rip my now fucked up sword from my hand, a spear skewered its mouth from under the jaw. I didn't even have the time to look at who it was, as Daniel's shout reached my ears.

"Back off! Now!"

My grip on my sword loosened before leaving it fully, and I jumped over the wrything Ursa, my hands wrapping around the man who stabbed it through the mouth and making a run for it.

A shockwave washed over me as the ursa exploded behind me. I fell to the ground with the man I grabbed to get him out of danger.

He let out a shout, and I grunted as both of us rolled on the ground for a few seconds before coming to a stop. My head snapped up, looking at the cloud of smoke for a moment, wanting to make sure, before I looked down at the health bar, it was completely empty.

A second later, it disappeared as a screen popped up in front of me, and I read it over, stared at it for a second, and dropped my head down on the ground with a groan.

I suspected it, but dreaded it. The boss drops were randomized.

What the hell was I going to do with Warmth without a Pyromancy flame?
