Chapter 1 - Sucked into a novel

After a long and tiring day at work, Alya reached home and immediately collapsed on her bed. She was exhausted. These damn capitalists working employees to the verge of death. Alya felt as if she was at death's door, her muscles aches and a raging headache pounded inside her skull.

"Phew, I survived another day of work," she said, tiredly. Although her muscles ached with fatigue and she had a headache, she could not bring herself to fall asleep immediately. That's when she noticed the novel beside her.

The novel followed Sasha, a twenty four year old happy and successful woman. She had graduated at the top of her class in university, cherished by her family and friends, barely faced any hardships in her life. Through her highschool and university best friend Alya, Sasha met Julian, the male main character in the novel. Julian was a young and successful rich man, who was in charge of a large business empire 'Davenport Enterprise.' Alya had always secretly envied Sasha. Sasha was incredibly smart: she always took first place in mathematics and science competitions, gorgeous: was considered the 'school beauty' then the 'university beauty' and had a successful job at Julian' company. When Alya realises that Julian likes Sasha, Alya does everything in her power to try get Julian to fall in love with her and is very unsuccessful. Alya gets involved with Zak, the villain in the novel, as her parents arrange the business marriage for profit. As Alya falls into the clutches of Zak, he never lets go. Yet, that does not stop Alya from trying to escape and be with Julian.

Alya had finished reading the novel: the main characters live happily ever after whilst book Alya desperately tries to divorce Zak, and when she finally succeeds, she ends up dying on the streets. This was because book Alya's family was facing financial difficulties, and when Alya divorced, the situation worsened as Zak withdrew investment. This led to Alya and her whole family ending up on the streets, begging for food. Thinking about the tragic fate of book Alya, Alya yawned tiredly and drifted off to sleep.

"Wake up, immediately!" screamed a shrieky voice. Alya woke up with a start. The black velvet curtains were open and bright light shed on Alya. Wait a minute. Black velvet curtains? Alya certainly did not have black velvet curtains. For goodness sake, she could barely afford her rent.

Rubbing her eyes tiredly and yawning, Alya looked around her surroundings. This was not her home. Black velvet curtains, a large wooden oak desk and a huge mirror. Maids running in and out of the room.

She was dreaming, that was the only reasonable explanation Alya could muster up.

"Mr Blackwood will be arriving in 30 minutes and you have not even washed your face. Get up, right now or I will freeze your card," ordered a stern woman. She looked in her late forties, dressed in a fancy and modest blue dress with gold bangles and gold earrings. She would have seemed nice if it was not for her scowl and the hands on the hip.

Despite the command by the stern woman, Alya did not get up. Instead, she pinched herself. It hurt. Was this not a dream then? If it was a dream, she would not have felt any pain.

The stern woman walked in closer and yanked her arm. Alya shrieked in pain. Pain? This was definitely not a dream. Was she kidnapped? Traffiked? Was this woman a trafficker and was she brought into their mansion?

"Why have you kidnapped me?I do not have any money or relatives. Please let me go. I will not tell anyone." Alya begged in desperation, her eyes tearing up. She has not fallen in love yet, or eaten the chocolate in the kitchen drawer that she has saved up to eat.

As Alya was thinking about all the things she had not yet done with her life, a man in his early fifties wearing a black suit entered, looking furious.

"Is this another plot to not get married to Mr Blackwood? Faking Amnesia, very original." The man said, gritting his teeth.

Alya was confused. Dumbfounded. The name 'Mr Blackwood sounded very familiar. She had heard of it before. It was the name of the villain character from the novel she read. The novel had that pathetic side character who shared the same name as her, who was desperately seeking the male main character, and becomes married to the villain male character named Mr Blackwood. She was in a novel.

"I expect you to be downstairs in thirty minutes." The man said, who was her father, she presumed and left.

Alya pinched herself again, refusing to believe she was in a novel.

She asked the stern-looking woman to pinch her, which she did. It hurt.

Alya did the most appropriate action one does when they find out they have been sucked into a novel, becoming a weak side character.

She fainted.
