Hidden Village, Canadian Border
A golden portal opened before a dilapidated cabin. James, Wanda, and Kara stepped out. Inside, Banner sat at a rickety table, reading by lamplight. He looked up, startled, then gave a wry smile. "James? Wanda? How'd you find me? Oh, right, you're Superman."
He closed the book, rubbing his brow. "Hulk lost it again. I can't go back to cities."
James scanned the peeling walls and leaky roof. "I'm not here to coddle you."
Banner noticed Kara, frowning. "Who's this?"
"Kara Zor-El," she said, offering her hand. "Another Kryptonian."
Banner shook it, eyes widening. "Supergirl? From the comics?"
James cut in, "Banner, come with us."
Banner stepped back. "No. I'll just cause more trouble. Ross's army's hunting me. Hulk's a disaster waiting to happen."
"Then we deal with the troublemakers," Wanda said, scarlet energy flickering.
Kara crossed her arms. "I was caged too. How long will you hide?"
Banner opened his mouth but James grabbed his shoulder. "Enough hesitating." He opened a portal to Ross's military base, its gamma research building stark against high walls and soldiers.
"We're talking to Ross," James said, pulling Banner through.
Military Base
The portal opened mid-air above the base. James held Banner aloft, Wanda and Kara beside him. Alarms blared, soldiers aiming but freezing at the sight.
"It's Superman!" "The Hulk!" "Who's the blonde?"
Ross stormed out, uniform crisp, face grim. "Superman! This is a military restricted zone. You're out of line!"
James smirked. "Out of line?" He released Banner, suspending him with his bio-field. "Banner's mine. You're hunting my people, and I'm out of line?"
His voice darkened. "No one tells me I'm out of line. Not you. Not anyone."
Soldiers' weapons snapped up, but James's heat vision swept, disarming them instantly. Ross stood firm, sweating but defiant. "You're declaring war on America!"
James flicked a finger, lifting Ross into the air with telekinesis. "War?" he mocked.
James, Wanda, Kara, and Banner landed. "Turing," James said.
"Here, sir," Turing replied from his watch.
"Recorded everything?"
"Yes, sir, including Ross's statements."
James nodded. "Record me now."
A holographic camera projected. James faced it, black suit's gold veins gleaming. "I'm Superman," he said, voice resonant. "Hulk's my friend, a hero who helped me stop an alien fleet, saving countless lives. Yet the military hunts him, forcing him to hide."
He paused, eyes piercing. "I'm disappointed. I protect this world, but I won't tolerate threats. I'm not Clark Kent. I don't show mercy to enemies or spare those who aim at me."
He turned, the camera panning the ruined base. "Last warning."
"Upload it everywhere, Turing," James said. "Dark web, social media, all of it."
"Done, sir. Global coverage in 30 seconds."
Banner sighed. "The military's gonna lose it."
Kara smirked. "Let them try."
James looked at Banner. "Your turn. He's your father-in-law."
Banner faced Ross, still suspended, his face a mix of rage and fear. Banner's fists clenched, then relaxed, his cracked glasses glinting. "Ross, I've imagined this moment—making you feel hunted, trapped."
Ross glared, silent. Banner removed his glasses. "I'm not Hulk. I don't solve things with violence." His voice lowered, veins greening faintly. "But if you chase me again or keep those gamma experiments, next time, it won't be me facing you."
Ross paled, knowing Hulk loomed. Banner sighed. "Let's go."
Wanda grinned. "Told you he's soft."
Kara mused, "Sparing an enemy takes more guts than killing."
As they turned to leave, Ross shouted, "Banner! Betty, she—"
Banner paused but didn't look back. "Tell her I'm fine."
"No," James said, stopping them. "I'm not done with him."
