The next morning, Veronica woke up in a daze, her mind still heavy from last night. For some reason, she clearly remembered the strange sensation of someone hugging her in her sleep—warm, firm, almost suffocatingly close.
Blinking the sleep from her eyes, Veronica sat up and glanced around the room. Everyone was still scattered about, either curled up under blankets or sprawled messily.
Her gaze lingered on Evangeline, who was sleeping soundly right beside her. Could it have been her? It seemed the most logical answer. Evangeline was close enough, and maybe she had unconsciously clung to her during the night.
Veronica frowned slightly, brushing her tangled hair behind her ear. Still… that hug felt too intense, too deliberate, like it hadn't come from a half-asleep girl but from someone who desperately wanted to claim her.
