Chapter-37: prepare for the winter

The waiter led the way, and the Foster family's head and his wife quickly helped their old mother upstairs to rest. Wendy Lark looked at him eagerly, "Sir, I also want to open an ordinary room."

She didn't give any money, but Lord Jeff didn't make things difficult for her and agreed readily. Wendy Lark did not follow the waiter immediately, but made another request. "I would like to ask you for a favor, sir. Please tell the shopkeeper to help me purchase some supplies."

According to the rules, the fugitives are not allowed to contact outsiders during the journey to prevent accidents. Then just spend a little more money to buy something safe and worry-free. Lord Jeff nodded slightly, "Let me have a look at the list."

"Okay." Wendy Lark happily asked the waiter for paper and pen. The waiter took them to the second floor and pushed open a door. "This is the room. Do you need hot water and food?" "Yes." Wendy Lark nodded without hesitation, "Please bring two more quilts."

There was no cotton in this era actually there is cotton but this place did not have it yet, so naturally there were no quilts. Winter was a hardship for the poor, and it was a disaster for the convicts.

She has to prepare in advance. The room is not big, with a wooden bed, a cabinet and a small round table, simple. Wilson Lark looked around and said, "You and your daughter will sleep on the bed, and my sons and I will sleep on the floor."

Although the place is small, it is much better than the woodshed. Wendy Lark sat down and started making a list. She had learned Writing with a quill and had no difficulty writing discussing with her family while writing.

Soon, the list was very long. Wilson Lark felt a little distressed, "No need to buy so much, right? We don't have much money, use it sparingly and buy more along the way."

"Once you miss this place, you won't find it again. I'm sorry to trouble you too much. Some things can only be done once and not twice." Wendy Lark explained softly then she continued.

"Besides, this place is close to the capital and has a full range of supplies. You may not be able to buy them if you are far away." Silver is a dead thing, how can it be as important as material things?

Just because someone is easy to talk to now doesn't mean they will be easy to talk to in the future. What you hold in your hands is yours. Wilson Lark was easily persuaded. "Then I'll listen to you."

After finishing writing, Wendy Lark checked it carefully again to make sure there were no prohibited items, then handed it to Wilson Lark.

Wilson Lark personally took the list to Mr. Jeff next door, and also presented him with ten coins of silver as a reward for his hard work, with a humble attitude and all the nice words he said.

When asking for help from others, you should have the right attitude. If you can be more tolerant, it will be easier to ask for help. Lord Jeff took the list impatiently and sent him away. Living in the same room with him is his old partner, Luke, and the two are like brothers.

Deputy Captain Luke witnessed Wendy Lark's amazing moves and was deeply impressed by her. "Let me see what I want to buy. This is Miss Wendy Lark's handwriting, right?"

"Five rolls of white silk, ten rolls of brown linen, ten pairs of shoes, a set of bedding, a bamboo hat and a raincoat, oilcloth, bowls and spoon and fork, a clay pot, a long spoon, rice, flour, oil, tooth powder, a comb, a hand towel, tea, pepper, cinnamon, a large amount, wheat straw... What does she need all this for?"

Lord Jeff glanced at it calmly and said, "Prepare for the winter."

"Although she is young, she is thoughtful and has a long-term vision..." Deputy Captain Luke heard a knock on the door. It was the cook's voice, "Come in." The cook came in with a casserole and placed it on the table silently with a strange look on his face.

Deputy Captain Luke took a closer look and saw that the color was yellow and ugly. "What is this?"

"The master ordered the golden rice." The cook looked as if he had a toothache. Lord Jeff rubbed his eyes, unable to believe it. It can't be said that they are exactly the same, but it can be said that they have nothing to do with each other.

Deputy Captain Luke was outspoken and blurted out, "Why does it look like shit?"

Mr. Jeff: ...Speechless… (Is he eating it or not?) After the comment his mind is in a mess.

There was a knock on the door of Wendy Lark, and the person who came was a middle-aged woman, accompanied by an official. She held the list in her hand and took the initiative to introduce herself as the shopkeeper's wife. She was responsible for purchasing supplies.

"I only have three bolts of white silk and four pairs of black shoes, but I have cloth shoes. Do you want them?" Ordinary people wear homemade cloth shoes, and only men of a certain status wear shoes, but there are not many in stock in the small town.

Wendy Lark understood immediately. The cloth shoes were made by the lady boss herself. "Yes, five pairs please. If you have any cloth or silk thread, please prepare some more for us."

"Good...." the shopkeeper's wife said. Wendy Lark's heart moved, "Do you have any untied clothes? Men and women are fine, the price is negotiable."

The proprietress immediately thought and said with a smile, "Yes, yes, yes, my daughter is getting married soon, and I have prepared a few new sets of clothes. If you want them, I will give them to you first."
