Chapter-33: mule cart is better than a carriage
The head of the Foster family looked disdainful, "She doesn't like you. If you can do something, I will give you to her." A good girl who can support the family and protect them when the family is in trouble is called a good girl.
With a daughter like this, what more could a husband ask for? Alas, you can't envy me, so you should just raise your grandchildren well.
Young Master Foster: ...Speechless… (Is this my biological father?) He thought.
Wendy Lark didn't care what others thought. She happily pulled her mother Mary's hand and said, "Mom, go up and sit. You won't have to walk so hard in the future."
Although the mule cart looks plain and has a small carriage, it is well-organized inside and has a long bench that can accommodate two people. If they squeeze in, four people can fit face to face in the carriage, but the load-bearing capacity of the mule cart must be considered.
There was a small cabinet nailed to the corner, with a small red clay stove on it and smoke rising from a brown pottery kettle. In a drawer below were cups, small pots and some tea leaves, and in another drawer was a snack box.
When I opened it, I saw snacks and steamed cakes. These were prepared by the Cox family butler who loved to enjoy life for himself. Now all these things benefited Wendy Lark, who was very happy.
Mary was more and more pleased as she watched. She tried to sit on the bench and it was quite stable. "Wendy Lark is so capable. It's worth it. It's better than a carriage."
Her feet were worn out and she thought she would not be able to endure the journey. She was getting discouraged, but she never expected to own a mule cart. At times like this, a means of transportation is the most practical and can save lives at critical moments.
She was suddenly excited as if she had been injected with chicken blood and was full of confidence in the future. Well, all that stands between hope and despair is a mule cart. No, what's missing is a daughter who is extremely smart, capable and clever.
Wendy Lark also sat in. The mother and daughter sat just right, and the space wasn't too crowded. She picked up a piece of pancake and sniffed it but didn't touch it.
"We should buy some quilts and put them underneath to reduce the bumps and allow you to sleep whenever you want. Also get a piece of oilcloth to cover it, so you don't have to worry about the rain."
They had to reach Varna before March, from autumn to spring. The further northwest they went, the colder it would be, so they had to make all the necessary preparations before that. "We also need to prepare for the winter and buy some clothes..."
She now has the money she wanted! Now she has the means of transportation she wanted! If we prepare all kinds of supplies, the journey won't be so difficult. But I don't know if there is enough money?
As for the two brothers breaking off the engagement in exchange for supplies, I don't know if it will succeed. She was used to taking the initiative in everything and not relying on others.
Listening to her arrangements one by one, the anxious hearts of the people in the second house calmed down. Unknowingly, she has become the backbone of the second house.
Mary interrupted with a smile, "I know how to sew, so I'll make the clothes. The price of ready-made clothes is several times more expensive. We don't have much money, so we have to budget carefully. We'll also need money to settle down when we get there."
She sat in a mule cart and made clothes, which was not hard. Wendy Lark thought this plan was feasible. "Then make a few sets of clothes for the whole family, and make more shoes and socks. We'll have to pay for the shoes on this trip."
The mule cart is not big and can seat two people. One of them is needed to carry the cart while the other two have to walk, so they take turns. "I'll buy some more rice and flour. With this little red clay stove, I can cook some simple meals."
Everyone's eyes lit up, and Lark Jerry Lark nodded excitedly, "This is good, I also want to eat broken gold rice."
"Okay." Wendy Lark can cook a lot of food, including the eight major cuisines, street snacks, and everything else. In her previous life, she didn't play games, chase stars or go shopping. Apart from reaching the top of the business world, her biggest hobby was learning skills.
She can do many conventional and unconventional things including fighting, cooking, crafting and even the skills of a butcher are learnt by her. In them cooking has the best with the knowledge and recipes of many kinds of dishes from all over the world.
She also know the formula and making process for gun powder, chemicals, cement and many other things that are not national secrets. Well some of them are national secrets and trade secrets like special wine making that is a trade secret.
The warm atmosphere of life could soothe her loneliness. Whenever her grandfather ate the food she made with a happy look on his face, she felt very satisfied.
Because of the special nature of her grandfather's job, she has been able to enter and exit the State house freely since she was a child. The one who taught her how to cook first was a state banquet chef, a true national level cooking master.
Her starting point is higher than that of ordinary people, she is talented, focused on her work, and naturally her cooking skills are very good. Although she did not choose this career in the end, her cooking skills are as good as those of professional chefs.
